The biggest mystery to me is why you can’t free roam together locally. Some of my best memories in old racing games was exploring the maps with my brother (ATV Off-road Fury comes to mind). I was really hoping MK World would’ve been the new-age answer to this 😓
Nintendo were really banking on you just hopping into the open world with some friends and screwing about with them but somehow failed to account for the fact that 90% of people who play Mario Kart multiplayer do so in couch co-op. WHY ISN’T THERE AN OPTION TO PLAY SPLIT SCREEN IN FREE ROAM?!?! The feature is already in the game when you’re waiting in an online lobby with a friend in split screen. Why not just… let us do that whenever we want? Generational fumble
all MKW needs for me is a Crazy Taxi inspired gameplay mode for free roam, having to take Yoshi's food items and doordash them to a location on the other side of the map being timed
No progression tracker. But at least you can follow a toad in his car for 20 mins then watch him park and enter a pipe.
Watch as a Nintendo Direct comes out and it reveals dlc for this game
Calling it now: in a few days time, the June Direct will showcase huge DLC news for Mario Kart World
The fact that DK Bananza's weird overpriced roguelite mode gets events and Mario Kart World doesn't is truly strange.
My knees are gonna be so sore from all the conclusions I’m gonna jump to
tbh I kinda forgot MKW was open world..
I think the game’s biggest flaw is that it doesn’t feel like a living world; it never feels more than just a giant map. The world doesn't even have a name, let alone any sort of identity. I wish it was more akin to Wii Sports Resort’s Wuhu Island, which while very simple, still managed to feel like a place and not just a big video game level.
New Horizons would still be thriving if it wasnt SUCH an absolute chore to play with friends. The number of times we spent 30 minutes getting everyone on the island and then one person gets a connection error and the whole lobby crashes. Tragic. Didnt stop me from spending hundreds of hours enjoying it, i would have LOVED to play with friends more if they didnt make it sooo hard
As a slight correction, they did actually recently add a new battle mode in bob omb blast. However you are correct that it went by with 0 fanfare, it was just tucked away in some patch notes…
I would love if Mario Kart was treated like Splatoon having the updates with new karts characters and a new cup like twice a year
I can't believe we haven't even gotten any new skins. I was confident that they would release a couple for DK and Pauline to go along with Bananza's release.
I will still stand by my opinion that from a purely mechanical standpoint, Mario Kart World is one of the most fun and satisfying racing games I've ever played I just wish it had more substantial content around those mechanics
1:30 I can’t believe you said that about my favorite Nintendo game
Investors: Dawg it literally Mario Kart how could you possibly make it a controversial release? Nintendo: Hold my beer
Open world mode really needed a Tony Hawk-style points system for pulling tricks or something along those lines where you could try to string together combos while just messing around with friends.
I HAVE NEVER PINNED A COMMENT THIS HARD Head to /arlo to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code "arlo" Also I do want to point out, my claim that the majority of people bought the game "because it was bundled" is clearly not represented in the poll, I misspoke. I just meant to say that on top of the people who bought the game "because it's Mario Kart" (vs. because of the open world), a good percentage fell into the "bundled" camp, adding up to a pretty good overall percentage of people who didn't care about the world. In my haste I worded it poorly and just didn't catch what I'd done until I was about to post the video.
The progression in world is such a strange part of the game. "There are tons of costumes for each character!" ok cool, how do I unlock them? "uh... well we had this idea where you could get food items that change your costume to match the region so... do that? But there's also a whole bunch of extra characters!" how do I unlock those? "erm... we had this idea where the kamek item could turn everyone into a character based on the region so uh.... do that I guess?" Do I even want to ask how you unlock Mirror Mode? "oh no, we hadn't thought about that. oh dear. uh... can you go do some open world stuff for an hour or so and like... play all the tracks? We'll think of something cool, I promise"
