Constant stimuli, digital distractions - how can we stay focused these days? Does talent, training, or technology help? Neuroscientists and mental coaches show how concentration works in the brain. In an increasingly demanding world, we seem to be able to concentrate less and less. How does our brain manage to focus, even when we’re constantly exposed to distractions? This documentary accompanies a top athlete, an air traffic controller trainee, and an e-sports professional on their journeys in search of maximum focus. Swimming world champion Angelina Köhler has to be fully focused for a certain number of seconds to win a race. How does she prepare for this? According to Angie Köhler, the mind is crucial: "The sequences we train in swimming are so precise and technical that if you're not focused, you can't perform them quickly. If you can't concentrate properly, you lose." Jan Peter Konopinsky is a trainee air traffic controller. He has to maintain his concentration for several hours at a time. He can’t afford to make mistakes, because human lives depend on him. Dennis "Denninho" Malcherczyk is an "eFootballer" playing in the virtual Bundesliga. He trains for several hours every day. He, too, must be fully focused: His success depends on his reaction speed, analytical skills, and ability to recall hundreds of key combinations at the right moment. Does his talent for multitasking help him? Once each of these three subjects have created the right training and working environment for themselves, things sometimes go so well that they forget time, space, and everything around them. Then, they’re in the flow. Flow is considered a mental state of complete immersion, a state of highest concentration. It’s a chief field of interest for researchers like Prof. Dr. Corinna Peifer from the University of Lübeck. She’s investigating how flow can be measured, among other things. Neuroscientist Dr. Henning Beck and ‘mental coach’ Thomas Baschab observe the three subjects, describing what’s happening in their bodies and minds. Their insights are valuable to anyone wanting to improve their own concentration. #documentary #dwdocumentary #dwdocs ______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. “save to watch later” im distracted
"How to increase your attention span" - 42 minutes long, no one who needs this will watch it lol
The title is clickbait, though it's an interesting and well-put together documentary. Here's a summary to save "concentrating for 42 mins": Ultimately, what they are saying is that the "secret"--if we can really call it that--is "balance". Balance between focused attention and allowing the mind to wander. Concentration is not about white-knuckling ones way through distraction but rather creating the right conditions--rested, clear goal, developing routines, limiting digital noise, proper recovery--so that focused states arise more naturally and easily. The ultimate expression of pure concentration is flow and it can not be forced. One has to setup the conditions and surrender--aka let go. Also: the wandering mind is not the enemy; it's just the other half of the equation, where ideas get synthesised. The interplay between focus and digression/distraction is actually what makes humans uniquely capable.
Concentration is the ultimate skill in the time we live in. He who masters it will always stand out in what he is doing
I started watching this video and got distracted so many times... 3 hours have passed and I'm still here trying to finish it 😂
Routine, regularity(consistêncy) stability to work efficienty, affirmations be positive ( fear dominates the brain), imagine yourself doing the activity as if were in the future at the most important moment (you wil not have the same controlable variables at place, like your trainning days...)
i don't have the concentration to watch this.
This is my ADHD brain saving to watch later

What was this video about? I watched it twice and forgot to pay attention.
If you can watch this video, you have a high concentration ability because the noise, the background music, the German language and English on top...they all require high concentration ability to understand the video and learn something from it.
Thanks for the information! I used to be a figure skater, runner, badminton player. Now my job is connected with science. I have always known that we should recharge our batteries doing quite different things to recover: a relaxing walk after intellectual job, a pleasant reading after trainings. Back then we didn't have sport coaches, but I was an amateur and didn't care about my success. Hats off to the authors of the video! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
the secret is keep doing
I wanted to yell "get to the point!"
Consentration cannot be hold for longer period time, yes and no. For neurotypical this is the case. but in adhd or in case of autism that differs a lot.
4th time i am trying to finish this well 6th time is charm
i like how the focus and concentration is directed at sports and e-sports/games, instead of just studying.
Thank you DW Documentary! This is just what I needed😊
