Fun fact: Beavers in the Czech Republic saved the government an estimated $1.2 million by naturally constructing wetlands and dams. The wetland that beavers created was twice the size of the original human proposed wetland size.

Beavers are natures engineers
My mother told me a story once that, when she was in college, there was a major wetland very near her campus, and it was known that beavers lived in this wetland. And, whenever they would get heavy rains, the nearby streets would flood all the time because of the dams the beavers built. News broke that the beavers were going to be relocated and the dams destroyed to make life easier on the students and local residents. Well, my mother and some of her classmates organized a public campaign to let the beavers stay by talking about all the natural benefits that beavers provide. And, as it turned out, this campaign helped change the minds of those at the local municipality, and the beavers got to stay! So, my mother had a big hand in protecting local biodiversity! 🌎

I've seen videos of beavers being raised by people and when they are in the house they will make a dam out of whatever is lying around like toys and what not. The funniest one was when he used a huge Spongebob plushie. They just can't not make a dam.
