Okay, two things, 1)when serving behind the bar, I never called any of the ladies anything familiar (love, darlin' etc) but the lads got the lot! Mate, pal, bud, etc. Thing is, my best mate noticed this habit, before I did!!! 2)tables are sticky in pubs because the daily "clean" they get, isn't thorough. It's a quick wipe over with a cloth that's too wet and often isnt clean. Plus, polished wooden tables need wiping clean, then drying to a shine, and guess what? Ta-daah!! No sticky!!! I always did my own... cleaned 'em, then polished 'em!!!
25:42 Alanna's not been doing the washing-up, reduced to drinking from a jam jar.
Years ago when everyone smoked in pubs it used to be worse than just sticky. Not only did the fog make your eyes hurt but you could run your finger down the yellow ooze on the wallpaper and discover that it was white underneath. Ricocheting darts bouncing off the board could spoil your evening too.
My favourite Pub name is the Slug and Lettuce
Best one yet Alanna - as a brit, I hadn't even considered or noticed half of these things 😂
In The Isle of Man there's a pub named The Glue Pot.. It has the distinction as being the only pub in the world that is depicted on currency, on the Manx £5 note.
Our pub quiz team was called Around on the House. Every time the quizmaster said it the whole pub cheered
Our pub quiz team name was Betty Swollocks
I rather like the London pub called The Hung, Drawn and Quartered, just down the road from the Tower Of London... a pub named after an utterly gruesome method of execution. Also the pies are great! ;o)
ROUGHTY-TOUGHTY absolutely wonderful I think you're officially british now
Alanna boozing again! She cracks me up😂
the clip you showed for the pub garden, was the barbican in Plymouth. also there's a pub in Hayle called the bucket of blood
This was very accurate (for a Canuk, in the south :D).
Sticky tables - not always spilt drink, most establishments wipe the tables over, however, the varnish coating can become plasticy and sticky. If you can scrape a line in it with your finger nail, that’s the surface becoming soft and gooey. Cleaning with chemical sprays degrades it even more….
Spot on. Excellent stuff. I'm originally from South Africa and so spoilt for good weather, especially in summer. It was only when we moved to the UK, more specifically Scotland, that I understood what "making hay while the sun shines" truly means. I do the same when the sun pops out. I think the sticky tables might be the stuff they use to clean the tables with. Thank you for always managing to make me chuckle.
The shy teds was always a good quiz team name when it was called out 😂
Sorry if this is a bit of a random side-observation here - but I just gave you an unseen double-thumbs-up when I heard you pronounce 'Leicester' perfectly correctly!! Well Done! I still remember the video you did a few years ago now, where you were trying to guess the correct pronunciations of some of the more obscure place names around Britain - and later, I remember trying to help you to learn to say names like 'Leicester' and 'Worcester' - which at first you really struggled with! So - hopefully - since you've now mastered "Lester" - I hope you've also got "Wusster" as well?
Pub names can be entertaining but they can also be very samey. In the metropolitan Borough of Stockport, where I live, there are 8 different pubs called "The Crown"
Your bonkers but I love you 😂😂😂
My local is in a village that is listed in the Doomsday book 940 years ago 😉
