MC-308488 is resolved as "Cannot Reproduce" because we found that attribute swapping can still be performed in Pre-Release 2, but it's much harder and more inconsistent, and does not apply to spears.
Multiple Grians were hurt in the making of this video

The thing is that attribute swapping throws balance out of the window, new weapons with intended drawbacks can be overriden by it,
This is Grian’s punishment for not finishing the back of his builds

I think the reason it's getting axed *now* specifically comes down to the fact Mojang seems to be on a streak of rewriting foundational systems to prepare the game for the future (cuz let's be real, a lot of older Minecraft features need to be reworked). So I think this could be a sign similar to how the switch from OpenGL to Vulkan allows for JE Vibrant Visuals, and we might see something in the future on that level applied to PvP
Interesting how both Minecraft and Terraria had a unintended game technique that required to swap things back and forth to apply different or multiple effects. And now they are being patched :O
8:11 He definitely didn't hit that mace or he wouldn't have cut lol
I believe these kind of unintended bug is not one that should go unfixed. I understand bugs like quasi connectivity have stood the test of time as a useful bug that would make the game worse if removed, but switching items in a single frame to trick the engine into applying attributes from one to the other is not something I personally like. If you want something like that add an enchantment or an item that allows you to do something similar, make it an official feature, but as a bug it feels too exploity and unintuitive.
Phoneix PVP arc?
Thank God I abandoned PvP a decade ago, I’m even more glad about that now
On one hand, attribute swapping played a big role in modern PvP. _on the other hand, however..._ I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but... This single mechanic has been the source of a lot of overall bad stuff that I feel like PvP would be much funner and better for everyone without it. I'm personally more in favor of attribute swapping being removed because I feel it would make PvP more fun and less about how fast you can attribute swap a spear and mace.
no (real) Grians were harmed in the making of this video

Im a big minecraft pvper on the modern versions and attribute swapping is really unfun. Pvp is already hotkey managing hell so adding in 2 extra keyboard button presses every time you want to attack is gonna give you carpel tunnel real quick. Plus considering how strong it is with the addition of breach, the feature basically becomes meta breaking. Pvp would be a lot more creative and dynamic if this wasnt in the game
Bedrock still waiting for the combat update that java got a decade ago:
been in the PvP scene for 8~ years, and i really dislike attribute swapping and i really hope it does get changed at least a bit, PVP could be so much more unique when spearswapping for more range wasnt a thing.
Higher skill ceiling is good, but I'm not sure about this specific technique. It's TOO overpowered, and not THAT hard to use at all. So I think fixing it is probably the right call.
