The irony of ground types having rock solid defences but rock types crumbling like sand. You kick a sandcastle and it is destroyed but kicking a Palossand leaves it unaffected. You kick a boulder and you break your foot but kicking a Golem deals super effective damage.

Ever since the Fairy/Fighting/Steel type triangle got added, that Ground/Water/Fire/Steel/Fairy core became basically mandatory on every team. These 5 types are such a cut above the rest that it was only a matter of time before Ground became the best offensive stab in the game since it's the only one of those types not resisted to one of the other 4. Being able to reliably check most Steels and Fairies without being weak to rocks or Sandstorm is just completely irreplaceable. I love the way this vid got me to dissect what actually makes Ground so busted.
Toxicroak would be my favorite Ground type if it was Ground type, it is only my favorite Poison type because it is Poison type.
Crucially, Rhydon laid the framework and not the groundwork, as it could not double up on its already present ground typing.
