Car-dependent suburbs suck, but suburbs themselves don't have to. The key to fixing them is to look at historic designs that have already proven to be successful. In today's video, we are building a classic Streetcar Suburb in Cities: Skylines 2, modeled after real-life historic neighborhoods in Vancouver and Toronto. By the end of the build, we'll analyze the data to see how this human-scale design influences land value and transit utilization relative to the other neighborhoods in our city. Can we build a suburb that doesn't suck? the cemetary right next to the hospital is a joke which writes itself. i love it.
Phil! The tram tracks should curve straight from the depo into the platforms!
8:10 why not just have the tram line cut through the road and go through the tram station, rather than make the extremely sharp corner and compete more with traffic?
legendary refresh pull, time to plan this city
I attended a rural university and have to say the campus bubble is a very real phenomenon. From what I have seen, universities like that lead to really prominent neighboring college towns. A place where students go to get out of their isolated campus. I think it would be fitting to make the few blocks directly over the bridge from the dorms into a heavy night-life area. A few bars/clubs, cafes, artsy stores, etc. something very walkable.
Love the series. One suggestion for this video is to flip the circulation of the university tram route. Currently every person using it has to cross the road to get to and from the tram and the building they are using it. While a clockwise circulation will have a cross over for the tram, pedestrians will all be getting on and off on the primary side of the road so overall conflicts across modes will be reduced.
There will soon be a Klingon track available on the video. No - I do not speak fluent Klingon, but I did upload a track that is just my voice, if you'd like to hear the video without music (a pretty common request). Let me know if you find this valuable or not! ALSO - Tim Horton's Hamburgers - /mods/145611/Any
My niece is currently visiting us (in suburban Dublin - not necessarily a bastion of urbanism) from Texas. She is obsessed with being able to walk to multiple different playgrounds, all the "Dublin Double Decker buses" (she enjoys that tongue twister) and being able to walk to the store. Exact quote yesterday on the walk back from the playground was "its nice to not have to drive everywhere".
hell yea one last video before bed
The tram depot should connect directly into the back of the station rather than going along the road and doubling back to get to the station. The blue line should probably also be a branch of the green line and go all the way to town, while taking half the capacity of the green line. It's very inconvenient for people to ride the tram to the campus right now because they'd have to backtrack on a low frequency line, whereas if it ran directly to the campus it would be much more attractive
1:06 "the streets are narrow" - shows a four-lane road
This is my favorite neighberhood in Banff by far. I would name it "Evergreen Promenade", cause it fits the houses built right up against the beautifull tree line and walkable streets.
The C:S 1 nostalgia hit me like a train once lucky dreamer played
I think the hospital would be built right at the tram line because so many people would use it to get to the hospital. Here in Tampere they specifically routed the tram to go to the hospital and it stops right at the front door
Phil, I just want to inform you that in the bottling factory downtown, at the entrance/exit of the parking lot there is a streetlight in the center and I saw cars and trucks pass through it. I hope you notice.
Would it not make more sense for the one-way tram route around the campus to have the station side on the same side as the campus? So that people wouldn't have to cross the road to access the trams from the university. LOVE the streetcar suburb though. Great video as always
30:28 those front yards are begging for trees!
I feel like a bus line from the new Neighbourhood into old town via the high school and large supermarket would make alot of sense - you mentioned that a high school in the new area isn't needed because there's one over the hill, but it's currently very hard to get to with transit
You missed the iconic 'Ba Ba Baaaaa' for the song at 27:55! To me, that means you manually place these each time making the bit even funnier XD
The University sits on a island bisecting the Bow River. I think a great name for it would be Marksman Research Institute after the river and traditional buffalo hunting native population.
