Beyond STUPID to accept the neighbor's word as permission to enter someone's yard.
That's wild accepting the neighbor's permission. Why not leave a note and set up it up later if you do this all the time?
I don’t think it’s a good idea to begin something without the owner’s permission, even if it’s altruistic in intent. She has every right to be freaked out by what you all are doing. Just come back another time or give a card or something so she can contact you when she’s home.
