German efficiency is actually polite 🤨

Every time I tried to practice my German in Germany everyone just said "we can speak in english!"😂

Remember: it’s not about you beeing bad at German that bothers us germans. It’s all about optimisation. If there is a way for us to make something easier and more efficient for everybody, we will gladly do that without thinking about how that might come across.

German here, if you go up to me and try to talk in German, even if it’s broken as hell, I’ll be happy for the rest of the day and love u forever, so pls don’t be shy, there are some of us who appreciate it 😊

My husband is from Hong Kong and I know very basic Cantonese, mostly food names. Every Cantonese auntie is so friggin impressed THEY'RE IMPRESSED WHEN I KNOW HOW TO USE CHOPSTICKS lmfao

I had a couple customers who wanted to speak German with me to learn it. Every time I started speaking English I got a “no English mein Freund” 😂😂

I didn’t take four years of German in high school to not use it terribly!! The ONLY reason I took German was to go to Germany with the German club. Worth it.

Spain is the best guys haha, any Spanish speaking country, you go, you speak a little, and we understand everything and we get happy as fk!

When I was visiting Prague, a man asked me what time it was. He had a lovely German accent, so I unearthed my undergrad classes and answered him in German. He was surprised. I was, too, because I didn't expect to remember much of my German. Anyway, we had a lovely conversation. He asked me for directions to one of the museums and he was on his way. It was fun.

Norway is the same lol. Auto switch to english.

This is so accurate! I moved to Germany last year and never get a chance to practice my German because the moment they hear any hint in my voice that I don’t speak it fluently they speak English. They seem to like to practice their English in my area, at least.

I was so excited to practice my Norwegian when I went to Oslo, I knew how to ask where I could find sunscreen (summer is so beautiful in Norway) and felt pretty proud of my pronunciation. The store clerk kinda laughed and would only reply to me in English. Confidence 100% shattered, but I did get my solkrem

I love German people. They are funny and have great sense is humor. Respectful, direct and clear communication. My favorite words in German are: Porsche, Audi, Mercedes and Autobahn. Followed by ApfelStrudel and Kuchen (forgive of I misspelled it!😂❤🇩🇪❤️🇧🇷❤️

Lived in Hamel for a while with my substandard German. This is so accurate and was much appreciated.

Much more polite than the French

I went to the German speaking part of Switzerland and I attempted to say Danke after ordering something but as a mix of my extreme social anxiety mixing up my brain and having learnt the word Danke the same day so not having it well memorised I said Dummkoph instead..

"Entschuldigun! Was-" "Your attempt is unsatisfactory, you will be sent to a camp as punishment."
