European vs American Highways... (why USA highways suck)

There is no slow/medium/fast lanes. There’s the regular lane and then everything else is just supposed to be for overtaking.

USA needs to recognize where the problem lies. Learning Education. Sorry USA, but you are a ZERO. A small sample: In the European Union, as in many other countries, to get a driver's license you need to be 18 years old, have a medical evaluation, a theoretical and practical test, and a final exam. You have a driver's license without even finishing high school. Your rules don't even give priority to an ambulance, which in Europe is a crime not to do.

The American road system and a lot of town planning was built primarily at the behest of American motor manufacturers. These are the same companies that lobbied for the destruction of the old train and tram networks as well as making it illegal to just cross the road. It is governmental corruption 101 due to the way that politicians are forced to raise funds for their election campaigns. The lobbyist say 'if this happens we will not be able to afford to donate to your re-election campaign next year' so the politician does as the lobbyist tells them to.

Since getting a drivers license in Europe is a bit costly and strict it does: 1. Make the bad drivers be unable to get a drivers license. 2. The ones who manage to get a license will be very careful not to lose it since it takes time and money to get a new one.

Bonus thing about roundabouts: they cost the city nothing in electricity once they are put in and work 365 days of the year. You can even decorate and make them a landmark! like, I know of one that is a "showroom" for a garden-center near there, or one with a small boat parked on it, even one with a fighter-jet!

22:22 A roundabout is faster than a stoplight. As you don't need to wait 4 minutes at every light cycles.

One thing to mention: the German Autobahn does have Speedlimits, Autobahn just means Highway in German. Its not one magical Road without Speed Limits. Parts of the Autobahn have No Speed Limits, but Most of the time, there are Speed limits

I'm from belgium and we are jealous about the roads in the Netherlands. There the road is perfect. We always laugh when we cross the border , you can clearly see where belgium ends and the Netherlands begins

hello, austrian here (vienna). i dont even have a drivers licence, cause you dont really need them in vienna, but even i understand the rules of a roundabout just by taking the bus .. i dont understand the confusion .. you literally can learn by watching. EDIT: by "you dont really need them" i didnt mean you just can drive around in a car without a licence. xD i meant you dont really need cars, cause the public transportation is so good.

Currently, here in Germany, a standard Class B driver's license for vehicles up to 3.5 tons (7,000 lbs) costs approximately $3,500 to $4,000. If you also wish to drive with a trailer weighing over 750 kg (1,500 lbs), an additional $500 applies.

There are just too many cars on the road in the US.. the reliance on cars is insane

I'm Belgian and lived in North Carolina and Texas, the more space you have, the worse the driving gets. But the worst thing in the US is the passing on the right, which is strictly forbidden in Europe.

In the UK in addition to fines for traffic violations you get points applied to your license so for simple speeding you get three points and for other offences you will get six points. If you accumulate 12 points you are banned from driving until the points run out which takes years and you may have to retake your driving test. Also insurance companies may decline to cover you if you have too many points and will certainly increase your premiums. I drive as a job and my company's insurance company will not insure anyone with more than six points.

It cost £180 million to build the road, but they had to bypass Stonehenge by miles, redesign the whole thing and start from the beginning. The whole area is rammed with Stone Age sites but the road was needed. So it was built, it cost more but is much better than what they wanted, to tunnel under a historic site.

In Switzerland, fines for the most serious traffic offenses (such as exceeding the speed limit by more than 25 km/h) are based on income. The more you earn, the more you pay. This way, everyone pays the same proportion, whether you're rich or poor; you'll definitely feel it. I believe Finland uses a similar system.
