I literally stopped watching death note for over a year after L died. It pissed me off so bad. But thats mostly a testament to how great of a character L is. I just couldnt accept that i had to watch 10+ episodes without him 😂😭

So basically, at first Light had 2 Death Notes: Misa’s Death Note and his own Death Note. He returned Misa’s Death Note to Rem, then Rem gave it to Ryuk, and that Death Note was buried underground. Meanwhile, Light gave his own Death Note to Rem so that when Higuchi touched it, he would see Rem instead of Ryuk. So why didn’t they just use Misa’s Death Note for Higuchi? The reason is that if Light touched Misa’s Death Note later, his memories wouldn’t fully return. That’s why Higuchi had to use Light’s original Death Note, so that when it eventually came back to Light according to the plan, all of his memories would instantly return as well. So in short, Light basically swapped the ownership connection between Ryuk’s and Rem’s Death Notes because he wanted Higuchi to use Ryuk’s Death Note while still having Rem appear as the accompanying Shinigami. That’s because Light understood that Ryuk would never agree to seriously stick around and cooperate with Higuchi.
