One thing that I find really cool about this is that, this few episodes show that Light is ACTUALLY an honorable good guy, as implied earlier in the show, someone granted the power to kill like that is likely to be cursed. Light got corrupted by the power of the deathnote and threw away all his morals and ideals to succeed. meanwhile, when rid of the memories and grip of the deathnote he's a good guy, makes you think.

I believe L intentionally pushed Aizawa to want to leave because it wasn't really a test. He just wanted him to think it was so he would quit. L felt bad for Aizawa not being with his family and continuing to put his life at risk.
