I agree that this is the best episode of the season yet, surpassing Ep 3. I don’t think that’s recency bias. Subaru and Julius’s dynamic, along with the callbacks to S1 Ep 13, are just too peak.
Opening and closing the episode with Julius's full perspective of my 2nd hand embarrassment's armageddon was such a great call, especially with the revelation that (as we already kind of knew from the end of season 1 and episode 1 of season 3), from the very beginning, Julius saw in Subaru what he lacked, a bluster of confidence to wholeheartedly be one's own self, even if that self was deplorable and objectively stupid at that moment. The ties to the Astreas and Reinhard through the flashbacks really make me believe that this is the setup for Julius's true endgame for the end of this arc, surpassing Reinhard, through Subaru and Reid, in the one obstacle Reinhard cannot overcome: becoming more than just a hero.

I think the reason this episode hit so hard was because it didnt outright state why the stakes were so high for julius. Its all implied and it makes when they dont show his face on the stairway hit so hard i was crying so much.
Reminds me of the episode "Bystander" from Attack on Titan. Julius, like Keith Shadis, realized he isn't the main character of this story
