With wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and psychic son Danny (Danny Lloyd) in tow, frustrated writer Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) takes a job as the winter caretaker at the opulently ominous, mountain-locked Overlook Hotel so that he can write in peace. Before the Overlook is vacated for the Torrances, the manager (Barry Nelson) informs Jack that a previous caretaker went crazy and slaughtered his family; Jack thinks it's no problem, but Danny's "shining" hints otherwise. Duvall was nominated for worst actress. Funny because her acting is the most realistic expression of fear I have ever seen in a movie.

Fun fact: before getting into acting, Jack Nicholson worked as a fireman, either part time or full time idk. But they originally used a stunt door for this scene and they had to switch to a real door because he chopped the stunt one too easily. Basically the man actually knew how to break a door down. That’s my fact, hope you enjoyed.
Honestly, before people call her "overly dramatic" you have the think about what you'd do in that situation. I mean seriously, I wouldn't be worried about how perfect my scream was, I'd trying to make as kuch noise as humanly possible to alert somebody else who could help me or make my husband try to stop. This felt so real, she felt terrified.

Fun fact: The reason why Shelly Duvall looked like she was actually crying in her scenes was because she was. The producers pushed her to her limit and made her redo scenes over 50 times.

The fact this is her actual fearful reaction and real screams, makes this scene much more uncomfortable and real. I also found out she was calling out Jack (Nicholson's) name instead of his character's..
Fact: they made the woman repeat this scene over 170 times, and didn’t tell her they were going to use the axe either so this is genuine fear, which caused her to have sever hallucinations after filming this scene, she was never the same again
fun fact: Jack improvised with the lines “here’s Johnny”. They were never in the script, but the director (or whoever takes care of this stuff) loved it so much, they decided to keep it
When he said “Here’s Johnny!” Why didn’t she take the opportunity to stab him with her knife?
