"Cancel culture" broke the brains of a a few of the comedians I thought were the GOATs. A lot of them are just bitter and punching down because they feel like they are fighting against woke or something.
Chappelle left and came back jacked and raspy telling long, boring ass stories. Maybe too much success ruins creators.
To put it simpler, good comedy... really impact comedy punches UP, now down. Richard Pryor and George Carlin were and still are legends of the craft. Chappelle seems to idolize Pryor, but he doesn't understand WHY he was so beloved. Chappelle was once on their trajectory, but now he's far too deep into the "manosphere" to get there without a massive course correction.

Saw Chapelle right before before he got on his trans kick, just for a chance to see him live as a life experience. Waited for hours, finally got in and he was on stage with a bunch of musicians, and was just...winging it without real punchlines at all. I felt like I never thought I would feel: ripped off. I honestly think he just got super lazy. He's got enough raw firepower to continue to be hilarious and insightful the rest of his life...he just doesn't seem to feel like it and wants to coast. And he can do that at a level 3 or 4 of effort instead of a level 9. That still makes me sad he won't even go for 8.

I agree with everything you say here, and this is some good insight, but I wonder why you're posting this now? This stuff is all still up on Netflix, but in the most recent interview I saw, Chappelle is walking back some of his trans* comments because he came to the same realization: he saw Lauren Boebert use him to try to bully people and he's trying to separate himself from that now.
