I made a video about the coming food crisis and I think I freaked some folks out. I am not trying to catastrophize or demoralize you. I want us to assess the likelihood of a looming food crisis and MAKE A PLAN. Not a plan "prep" or to get "Self-sufficient"...no....what's our community resilience plan? How are we building up mutual aid networks and assessing who will need extra support? How are we building alternative structures to take care of people when the system has betrayed and abandoned us. Thanks to Trump and the GOP's massive cuts to SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and their war in Iran, things are about to get really bad. Fertilizer, diesel, gas for your car, gas to ship things, food prices, are all up and they are about to go WAY up in the next few months. Add to that the huge cuts to Food Banks Trump has made over the last year, cuts to school lunch programs, cuts to all kinds of nonprofits and assistance orgs...it will be bad. Let's not minimize it, let's deal with reality. Now is the time to establish mutual aid networks, form plans to help us all take care of each other. I am worried about children in our communities going hungry in the coming months. It's going to be a rough road and we need to get ready and STOP ACCEPTING THIS .We deserve SO MUCH MORE. and the only reason things are this awful is because of the Republicans protecting the Epstein Class. There is an old story called Stone Soup. It's about how a hungry community all got together and added what they could to a big pot of soup and together they made enough to feed the entire community. If we all got together and helped each other, neighbors and communities contributing things other neighbors didn't have, we could all survive. Like, one neighbor has tomatoes, another has egg laying chickens, another has corn, etc. Everyone shares.
Remember that if you are at the grocery store, or work at a grocery store (big chain stores, not local stores) and you see someone stealing food: No, you didn’t see anything.
I’ve been stocking up for the past six months. I’m on SNAP. It’s been hard.
I live in a townhouse community- we all own our homes- I implemented something during Covid- people who could donate; brought it to my home- those who NEEDED help could then come to my home… it was awesome! I’m disabled, I’m always home (other than Doctors appointments & my kids school stuff) MOST of my neighbors were REALLY into this! The few who said stupid shit like “there’s a food bank on blahblaw street” were only a few! (& NOW I KNOW WHO THEY ARE 😉) Anyway- IT WORKED & IT WAS AWESOME!!! I always share our family dinners with (offer & most of the time taken up on) my elderly next door neighbor anyway… I’m the oldest of 5 kids- grew up in poverty & know how to stretch & SHARE!!! Not to mention my garden where I grow amazing fruit trees & vegetables & ALWAYS share!!! It’s called being a good neighbor… & it’s really easy!!! 🥰 THANK YOU ANGELA!!!
