What a stupid stupid reason to give up on an otherwise spectacular man. This show was single-handedly responsible for poisoning the minds and judgment of a slew of Gen X and millennial aged women. The things we thought we were “learning” from this show-and even episodes like this where there wasn’t an overt “lesson”, but rather a subliminal “suggestion” that if a man has a “fit” over a mouse in the apartment then he must be “feminine” and therefore “not boyfriend material”-contributed to a great many of us adopting and maintaining toxic and harmful views regarding relationships, sex, gender roles, autonomy, independence, and general common sense. Some of us unfortunately still maintain a lot of these ridiculous views, while some of us eventually managed to evolve, mature, and educate ourselves enough to the point where we eventually realized that holding on to some of these views was not serving us in our intimate relationships. My current s/o of eleven plus years-the man I consider my soulmate, the greatest man I’ve ever known-he’s like the guy in the video but with spiders. I happily handle every spider sighting so that he can not have to deal with it and so that his mind can be put at ease. Considering how much he does for ME, and the countless ways in which he enriches my life, I am BEYOND happy to do it.

Being scared of insects can be just a phobia. My husband is scared of all kind of insects. I am the one killing cockroaches and lizards in the house. But he is the straightest man I know. Edit - It was just way of writing guys. Lizards are mostly shooed away. I am a vegetarian. I dont hurt animals unless absolutely necessary. Even when I kill a mosquito or cockroach in self-defense, I say a prayer and apologize to them. When I was not a not a mother and a wife, I did not even kill mosquitos. Would put a net and go to sleep..lol.

The shows from the 1900s are so judgemental and discriminatory.

Women as gatekeepers of patriarchy... Yes I know its a show but Charlotte is not being a good feminist here. Also to those who are always annoyed about judging things from a different time. Yes ofc standards were different but whats pertinent about criticising this show is that AT THE TIME, it it presented itself as a radical, progressive, and modern story of woman. If anything its a good thing that 20 years later it falls short of our moral expectations

I feel zero shame being the mouse catcher, spider killer, gardener and even the strong one. I do feel lots of shame in being in a relationship where I’m not well loved. That is the most shameful thing I’ve ever done

My hubby is terrified of spiders no sweat off my back I prefer they are caught nicely and left to roam outdoors
