You've reached the end
I like that rule. Great rule
"not your air space" is a great way to put that situation
Look at her eyes, she watched it right to her elbow and never tried to move.
i assumed this was a rule in mlb but never called like travelling in nba
Love this rule... especially since most batters come to the plate now dressed like a gladiator...
I remember guys like Biggio would wear 14 lbs of body armor and then stick his elbow into the path of the ball in order to draw a hit-by-pitch. I'd love to see MLB enforce some rules like this. (EDIT: fixed spelling)
Take that elbow guard off, and you can take that rule right out of the equation.
Its a great rule, also there is no expectation for the batter to avoid a hit by pitch in the box.
In no world should a ball that would have been a strike, or dang near a strike, be allowed to stand as a HBP.
Poor ump, mic was messing him up
I love the umpire making his call and calling for a review himself to confirm it, instead of forcing teams to use their challenges to combat a "hunch" call
MLB needs to enforce their “attempt to get out of the way” way better than they do.
The MLB has a few rules about this. If the ball would've been in the strike zone, it's a dead ball & a strike. If they don't make a valid effort to avoid the pitch, it's a dead ball & a ball. I don't think this was in the strike zone (but I'm not sure of the softball strike zone), but she definitely didn't make an effort to avoid the pitch & instead leaned into it, so it would be a ball in the MLB.
Ya too many coaches teach the girls to crowd the plate and get hit . So this rule was necessary. They started using the pads to get hit. You have to atleast try to turn away as you're getting hit and youll be awarded the base . If an umpire thinks a girls tries to get hit on purpose it's a dead ball ball... if theyre hit in the strike zone its a dead ball strike
Softball is a great and widely misunderstood game. People think the ball is softer, it’s not, they think it’s slower, it’s not, they think the pitchers can only throw 100 pitches a game, they throw more, on and on. It’s fast paced and fun to watch. The pitches are insane and they’re only like 41’ away throwing up to 70 or so.
Mlb needs to adopt this rule
Wow that's crazy, love your work
It’s literally just happened on the ucla vs Texas tech softball game!
I do recall something like this being done in Game 1 of the Astros-Phillies World Series. In the 9th inning with bases loaded, the batter was hit, but the umpire claimed he was leaning in to be hit on purpose so he prevented him from taking first base. I don't know if that's by the book but it was the right call in my eyes
This seems like a clarification of the rule that a batter has to make an attempt to avoid being hit.
