I have to admit the SAS men do truly walk the tight rope of compartmentalization/ poor mental health. That's why they are tested and trained the way they are. You want husky or an atkita over a wolf a person who can both follow orders and think independently to get said objective. You want someone who can get creative on the fly, those kinds of men and women are both born and tested to be worthy of playing in the type of urban warfare sandbox that is required for the modern time.
To be fair, given the reputation of the SAS at the time it was a valid concern to have.

It is actually a valid criticism, especially knowing what they know about Paddy, how were they supposed to know at the time that one day he wouldn’t just lose it and gym down a bunch of non combatants?

right now in Australia we have a Victoria Cross awarded SAS soldier facing murder of captured Civilians... It divides the nation, as 4 witnessed in HIS OWN UNIT have testified against him... yet many in the public believe its ok in war or dont believe the evidence... I think he should go to jail for a long time.

The establishment who set out the rules for conflict unfortunately either have never felt its affect or effect nor understand what is required to succeed at it without applying a compassionate ingredient which is a rare commodity when up against an enemy who does not reciprocate.
No special forces should be used as a "spearhead force". That would be a job for an armoured company or shock infantry. Commandos were used for reconaissance, disruption and sabotage. The show either doesn't know how these units were deployed, or they don't understand the terminology they are using. Perhaps both.
And in the Iranian embassy siege they showed how effective at hostage rescue they are
