To be fair, water polo played on horses would make for some compelling television.

To be fair, if you are completely oblivious about the sport and you heard about polo, it's not that much of a stretch to imagine water polo is just some variant of polo where the horses are swimming around in a body of water. I'm not sure about that big deep swimming pool they're talking about.

i knew what water polo was before i knew about the equestrian version... when I learned, i was confused about the mallets because surely the a volleyball-like ball would not be efficiently directed with such equipment. and i probably proceeded to be confused about why you'd want to be waving a mallet in close proximity to unpredictable giant animals.

My sister asked "how do the horses breathe?" and I got in big trouble for laughing my ass off. I've gotta admit I was being a little sh*t but it was legitimately hilarious

I'm from Poland, completely unintrested in sports and it's my first time hearing the name "water polo". And when I heard that my first image was a polo but played in some shallow water where horses are not swimming, but running through the water. I googled it and in my country it's called "piłka wodna" which translate to "waterball".
