2021 would have been in the middle of covid. I think the owner was older and died right before the work was completed. That is why the work stopped. The shop put a lien on it, finally got ownership and auctioned it off to try and recoup part of their losses.

Many years ago, our shop teacher taught us to unlatch convertible tops to avoid potentially tearing the fabric when the body sags on the hoist.

Life gets in the way. I’m struggling to finish 69 Mustang my dad and I started on. He passed during Covid and I took over the project. Several more family member’s passed since and lost my home to a house fire. The car wasn’t at the house as I had to store it because my garage was full from other family using it for stuff prior to me getting the vehicle. Now I’m just waiting for my house to get finished so I can bring it home and get back to finishing putting it back together. Really like the direction the previous owner was going with the restomods. I’m also going with a Holley Sniper and adding AC. It came stock with power steering so that was nice. I’m looking at making it more comfortable for daily driving but it is staying as a manual. Best theft protection these days.

With the Electronic Parking brake, I think it was an older gentleman that owned the car and couldn't push the brake peddle any longer. The previous owner passing away makes the most sense to me.

I'm glad Tyler bought it too because it is in good shape and worth saving so people can enjoy it for decades to come.

My dad had one of these in the reverse color, red exterior and white interior. When I was young he took me to a movie called Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. The final scene had Clint Eastwood driving one of these and dad went out the following week and ordered his. We lived in a northern state and the front wheel drive actually did pretty good on snow and ice.

My dad had a 1976 DeVille DeElegance, with the 500 ci motor. It could light the tires at 30mph, and got 18mpg on the highway. It wasn't fast, by any means, but it was powerful for the day.

Unfortunately, someone most likely was working on it and got sick and passed away. The wife / family didn't know what to do with it so they sold it. I've seen this scenario before. 😞

Passed and the kid tried, but ran out of passion, real estate to park it/HOA gave him grief over "eyesore broken down car", and money. Sad, really. I feel for the previous owner.

I learned to drive in my Mom's 73 El Dorado convertible. It would pass anything but a gas station.

My Dad had a 1971 Sedan DeVille that was a wonderful driving car. So smooth, quiet, and fast (472). I'm guessing whomever was working on that Eldorado either passed, had medical issues, or just lost interest.

I had a 74 and that front wheel drive was a great feature to these. Mine was a hard top with red over white and was an amazing car then.

Like other commenters have suggested I suspect the builder or owner passed away suddenly.

...also think so: finishing it would only make sense for the owner, it has no 100% historical value since it'been modded, the owner disappeared fast, went to jail or to heaven 😅

That in the back was known as VIR unit, yes it has an expansion valve and dryer but also a pressure equalization valve. We used to rebuild that unit but in later years we converted it over to a simple expansion tube and dryer with a simple cycle switch. There is an oil return line that comes out of the evaporator that can be capped... I literally have done hundreds if not thousands of them .. love those cars... That looks like a car that belonged to Mr Shelby here on the coast of N.C
