Dodge really got their feelings hurt with that EV Charger that nobody bought so they said fuck it and drank a bunch of PBR and did some American shit
Honestly, probably smart of them to call it copperhead and start fresh rather than name it Viper, not put a V10 in it, and get a bunch of shit for it
Actually, it is NOT the same people who brought us the Charger EV. The CEO of Stellantis that got a 10 million pound bonus for meeting "EV Milestones" has been fired. Tim Kuniskis, who retired in protest at the Charger EV plan, is now back and is the person behind the return of the return of the V8 and the Rumble Bee. So the bean counters brought you the Charger EV. The car guy is now back running North America, and suddenly fun exciting stuff is coming.
I mean, a "Miata" with the Hurricane I6 would be sick!
0:38 nah that’s Lighting McQueen under there
You're old? DUDEinblue my first kid was born when the Viper came out.
My Dream 2 car garage is a 2nd Gen Viper GTS, and a Ferrari F355 with a gated box. I hate how big cars today are.
I had a 1/24 model of the Copperhead as a kid, I'm old too.
Me too. Anyone remember the Gran Turismo 1 copperhead? It was great in the game.
I had a model of the original Copperhead concept car from the 90s
You're young. In '97 i was 17 hahaha
a new dodge stealth sports car with the hurricane engine would be cool
The OG Copperhead, was an ultra-light, affordable V6-powered coupe prototype. Made to be the little brother of the Viper...they WOULD have been fantastic, if the engine was changed. Also...sign me up to drive that first gen Viper. Crippled or not, i'll still manage. As far as a Miata competitor....nah. Unless Ford revives the Escort, Capri, or similar...or, Mopar revives the SRT-4/ACR Neon, and/or Omni platforms WITHOUT weighing 4,000 pounds... We'll not be likely to see anything in that power/weight class, or size, ever again. I'd like to see the era revival of our compact, 2,900-3,100 pound Mustangs, Thunderbirds, and so forth. Car mfg's are too focused on money, and apparently, making vehicles big enough for Shaq, to return to the K.I.S.S. method. Emissions rules? Nonsense. Lighter, smaller cars get better mileage. Why could my rev-happy 1992 Civic DX get almost 50MPG, when, the new Civic can barely manage 28-35 WITH econo-mode? Because they make the same damn power, and weigh 1,500 pounds more.
The barracuda concept in 2012 hooked me. I don’t want a full sized muscle car, I want something slightly smaller than a mustang that carve corners. Well, I guess my wish was granted. I do remember the coppperhead concept when I was a kid
I respect them not trying to sully the nomenclature of the viper like Toyota did with the Supra or Nissan with the Skyline.
Alfa Romeo has announced they are going to be building a hatchback. I bet the Dodge GLH and Alfa share the same chassis/drivetrain.
I have owned 2 GLH’s, 2 Daytona C/S Turbo’s (T-tops on both) & 1 Turbo Cult. Man these cars had torque steer but were SUPER fast for the time. There is a huge opening in the 35-45k range for a cool DD.
They need to bring back the Neon SRT4.
2:40 - oh whatever David 😄 i was 19 in 1997 & at my first duty station in Japan. I saw all the cars from Grand Turismo in real life before they became a big deal in the US. I also saw the R34 when it first came out in 1998 & i shopped in cool places like Autobaucs, Yellow Hat & Red Barron. I totally remember the Dodge Copperhead concept renderings, very cool indeed😎 3:36 - i miss the Dodge Avenger R/T & Chrysler Cirrus of this time. Very good looking cars even for today, but you just don't see them anymore.
No mention of Lee Iacocca? Wouldn't of had the GLH's without him. For people who are interested and dont know, Iacocca came to chrysler from ford where he was a engineer/executive who developed the mustang among others, he was brought in to save chrysler which was failing and breathed a little life back into the company. He brought in Carroll Shelby his friend who he worked with prior and they developed the omni GLH, GLH-Turbo, and the GLHS as an American answer to the hothatchs from abroad. ✌️
