Ngl, I really enjoy the level regardless. No annoying mechanics, no big hassle, and pure satisfaction seeing the water drain
13:04 railway design engineer here, not a third rail. Insufficient isolation from ground, and lower than running rails. Traction current supply rails must be higher than running rails so that the "shoe", which slides along the rail to pick up the electricity, does not collide with the running rails. You can have large gaps in the third rail as other shoes on other bogies and carriages will still be in contact with the supply even if one isn't.
As a daily user of the Trafford metro link line in Manchester I can confirm matt did a good job, they never flood
3:36 it was rain hard, water swirled under my boiler, I couldn't see where I was going, but I struggled on" -Percy the small engine, Percy takes the plunge
Why do I love this so much? 😄
Thank you RCE for making me buy yet another game xD
We like drain sim!
My favorite game to watch you play!
I was hoping the train would be a... recurring hazard for the level.
This is basically NYC subway during Hurricane Sandy
It took me a few of attempts to complete it. Mainly due to not even thinking there might be drains on the tracks, so I'd say you're background helped.
There actually is one more level if you enable the playtest options
This is a real stop in NYC (though, not what the station looks like at all). But NYC subway stations, especially ones lower than their surroundings, do have a history of flooding. I believe they all have drainage in some manner - certainly in a bigger station like this one.
A bit disappointed you didn't go again for 20min
Matt at the beginning "I got this map that tells me where the drains are" throughout the video "there's got to be some drains around here, I wish I could see where they were"
13:34 be careful what you wish for matt. The new level, that is currently in beta has some guys sitting there for 7 hours straight. It comes with a new shoveling mechanic, that allows you to build up dirt walls to redirect water. The challange time on the new level is currently set to 1 hour and 40 minutes. Idk how many changes there will be to it before it finally releases, but the new level is certainly alot more than we had seen so far from this game. Hopefully we get an extended cut when the time comes. Ps. Saving and loading back in can lead to sever issues so dont rely on "coming back later" too much.
14:17 Funny how the 2 may 2026 update patched this level without saying anything in the patchnotes. The first version contained graffiti of the 'ID&T wizard', the mascotte of the Thunderdome event series. Copyrighted image too. Dutch gamers were quick to point it out. Now the top of the Wizard has been covered by other stuff to prevent the dev of Drainsim having to pay ID&T royalties. 😆
RCE clearly has never cleaned before. You have drains in a subway terminal for a few reasons. First like you said for fire and spills. But to clean the platforms and walk ways you can use pressure washing and thus you need places for the water to go. Also places like NYC constantly have water filling it and they need drains to deal with that water that is constantly filling the subway.
In Finland the covered carparks (even multifloor) have drains and partially raised sections to flow oil leaks / firefighting waters in known direction...
I was anticipating another train coming along when Matt was on the tracks
