2010 World Cup. Quarter Final. Uruguay vs Ghana. Last minute of extra time. 1โ1. Dominic Adiyiah's header was goal-bound. Certain goal. Africa's first ever World Cup semi-final was seconds away. Then Luis Suรกrez threw up both hands and punched it off the line. Red card. Penalty. Suรกrez walked off โ and celebrated on the touchline. Asamoah Gyan stepped up. Hit the crossbar. The penalty was missed. Uruguay won on penalties. Ghana were out. An entire continent was heartbroken. Suรกrez called it the "Hand of God of the 21st century." He said any player in the world would have done the same. He had no regrets. Ghana had their chance and missed it. The rules worked exactly as they were designed. And yet โ it felt like the biggest robbery in World Cup history. To this day Africa has never reached a World Cup semi-final. One punch. One crossbar. One dream denied. 30 Days. 30 Iconic Moments. He didn't break a rule he got the red as per rules so that's not unfair
What if Ghana converted that opportunity?? Suarez would have become a villain for his own nation. But the result had gone his way, so he became the saviour who sacrificed himself for the sake of his nation. In the same way Zidane's headbutt can also have a different story. The thing is there is always another side of a coin and when you flip it the result is not in your control. In sports like football especially when someone plays for his nation they always try to control the controllable and the rest is the luck/fate which gives the final verdict.
Suerej was not wrong, he did it for his nation..

I watched the match... it was kind of a roller-coaster for both the teams... still believe it was not a mistake but a sudden reflx action at the extreme level.
