I would try to sue Anker. Having a charger blow up your main device is a really serious situation. Not remotely acceptable from a mainstream brand.

I'm surprised it doesn't have overcurrent protection in anyway. If you're making a power bank or a charger, in absolutely no way should it be without a protection like that
I have several Anker power banks. Most of them over a year old, and none of them have died or caused power surges. But I would never buy one with pre-attached cables. That's a poor design. If the cable goes bad, it renders the entire power bank useless. It's much cheaper to buy a standard Anker power bank, and have on hand, several separate cables, and just keep them in the bag that comes with the power bank.
Had to lock one of these Anker batteries in our refrigerated trailer during a medium sized camping event because it kept beeping loudly and the trailer was the only somewhat sound proof "room" we had access to. The poor owner had tried to turn it off for hours and was driving everyone up the walls with it. Got send back to Anker the next day via DHL (poor DHL people!) and that's where the story ended for me.

Evan, just had to say hello-- just arrived at Heathrow last night from Virginia, today took the train up north because tomorrow my husband and I will be picking up a narrowboat to do our second year in a row of exploring the inland waterways : )--on the train met a delightful passenger who is a fellow fan of yours in London. so fun to make that connection. I haven't watched this new video in full, won't be up much longer this evening, but wanted to write. So grateful to be away from American car culture for a few days!!!

Your travel luck brings mine into slightly better perspective. Unknowingly stepping backwards off a curb in London and landing on my back on the cobbles wasn't too bad. No scars and the pain eventually abated. You can can keep your cacti needles and dead electronics. Have fun traveling.
I bought the similar Anker charger without the built in cables recently. It refused to charge my phone - the phone kept trying to recognise the power bank as a media device. Then I read all the horror stories on reddit and sent the damn thing straight back. Bought the UGreen one instead and had zero issues so far 🤞🏻
