I Fed Myself for 7 Days on Just $50 of Clearance Food | Julia Pacheco

People and blogs

What happens when you eat ONLY clearance food for an entire week? I made a full week of meals using nothing but discounted food from Walmart, Smith's, and Dollar Tree. The result? About $50 total, just $2.38 per meal and $7.15 per day. From unexpected clearance finds to surprisingly delicious meals, this challenge proves you can stretch your grocery budget further than you might think. Walmart always has a cart with bakery items marked down. Sometimes it's not by the bakery. Usually has the french bread marked down. I've never seen markdowns at the dollartrees by me. That's some great finds. The Kroger by us usually has some good markdowns

I never realized that Dollar Tree did clearance cold food until this Friday ! I scored 7 pkgs of all beef Nathan's hotdogs for $1 each down from $5! So they are in our freezer since the expiration date was 7 days away!

Going to buy groceries is hard especially on a fixed income. I have a boiled egg and whole wheat toast with my coffee each morning. I went to the Dollar Tree and purchased their can chicken, cheese and a nut snack for lunch. They have these bags for $1.25 that have on the bag Energy, Protein Blend, Sunshine Blend, Berry Yogurt, Chocolate Honey. Purchased a jar of peanut butter and I have a tsp. that afternoon. Go to grocery store and purchase 2 bannas, few apples and some grapes. I come home and wash the grapes and put in the freezer. Great snack and they don't go to waste fast. Buy a few fresh veggies and cook a few for supper. Not tons of money and eating healthy too. We just have to do what we have to do with things so high. My fav dish you did was the sausage, broccoli and noodles.

I think the tater tots with the hot sausage, cheese, and salsa would have made decent breakfast burritos.

I load up on clearance all the time!! Goes straight in the freezer if we don't have it that evening. Helps a ton when feeding a family of 8 on 1 income.

Hi!!! You should keep can milk in your pantry. I use it to bake with instead of regular milk. Then you will always have milk on hand!!!...🦋

Hey Julia ! You’ll never believe this. I sat down to eat dinner and turned on your video. I’m watching you cruise around Walmart putting your clearance items in your cart and you picked up the pepperoni pizza, I had to laugh because I was actually eating a Buffalo chicken pizza that I got on clearance from Walmart 😂. It actually was surprisingly very good. Was glad to see you had a very enthusiastic and energetic helper with you, always good to have help. Just a side note, I am totally jealous of your yellow rubber ducky, super cute. 😊

Creamy tex-mex Broccoli soup! Just use water, Broccoli slaw, some of the salsa, colby cheese , salt & pepper...once broccoli slaw is cooked cooked use blender ( or whisk) to a creamy consistency and to serve garnish the soup with pan-toasted strips of the corn-flour tortillas...yum! (Optional: include broth and butter/ cream, it'd would add extra richness)

Suggestion: How about $50 buying sale and clearance items only. May get more variety. You are such a ray of sunshine 🌞

I microwave my desserts a little bit also, especially chocolate. So good when it's gooey. Thanks for budget videos. ❤

Julia, you're so creative in the kitchen! That stir fry with chickpea pasta looked so good. I'm gluten intolerant, and I've used Banza for years. Their spaghetti is my favorite.

I thought for sure you would use one of the pork loins with the pineapple and teriyaki veggies lol

I have to say that my first thought when you make these videos is your health and well being...as I'm a mom and I care for you so much!!❤Watching you shop brought back memories of years ago, when I had to shop the clearance section to feed my family. I got to know the butcher at my local grocery store (this is a great idea to do!) and he would tell me when he would be marking the meat down. He would put it out early in the morning, so I would go by the store that day on the way home from taking the kids to school. I would usually cook a lot of it for the week that day. You are such a trooper for doing these food challenging weeks, but I kept wanting to bring you a big fruit salad and some yogurt (dairy!) Great job, Julia!

I buy canned Dole pineapple instead of fresh, and canned pineapple with the broccoli slaw would be great as a side with the mesquite pork and garlic toast. The quality is always excellent, and zero waste. Same with canned peaches most of the time.

You are braver than I am 😅 I would have to freeze everything before I figured out what I wanted to do with them that close to being bad. I might try it but with different items. Idk yet. Great job ☺️

The broccoli slaw would have been great either on top for crunch, or added to the crock pot after shredding.
