Indonesian girl actually may be Chinese Indonesian. There are many of them in Indonesia and if you ask like that without context they can answer their nationality instead of ethnicity.

I can see the difference as obvious there is difference as ancestors are different of east asian and south east asian 😅 although sometime we get confused

One of my good friends is Asian and I know one of her triggers is when a guy comes up to her asking where is she from. She is born & raised in the U.S. I tend to keep walking at that point because I know see is going to go off a bit.

Chinese is the most diverse in east Asian (excluding South Asia like India which is very diverse), in SEA all the island nations like Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia have like 1000+ ethnicities plus mixed with each other and with the colonists too.
