Across the Channel, three British aircraft are flying on a rescue mission to save yet another RAF pilot downed over France. One of them is a Spitfire nicknamed Kiwi, flown by Pilot Officer Alan Deere. Once over French soil, his aircraft comes under attack by a German Messerschmitt Bf 109. Until now, no Spitfire has been credited with shooting down a Bf 109 Yet, Pilot Officer Deere doesn’t hesitate and engages in a dogfight. His daring stand will mark a turning point in the fight between the RAF and the Luftwaffe. Sources: Primary: Deere, Alan C. Nine Lives. Hodder Paperbacks, 1959. That fuel starvation animation was a sweet touch.
POV: you and your buddy are playing air realistic battles for the first time in WT. (On a side note, those are battlefield leve of graphics. Holy!)
2 of the most famous planes ever dogfighting. Beautiful video
Guess it was the first time bf109 learned that they couldn't turn fight a spitfire. Those .303 would take a long on target time to shoot down a 109, and take lots of ammo too.
Couldn't outturn those Spitfires, but man those .303s were underpowered.
My gosh, Allen 1 vs 3 and still shot down 1, that's crazy skill.
Yarnhub, you got the Bf-109 wrong, the E3 variant has 2x 20mm cannons on its wing (not 7.92mm machine guns on the wings), and 2x 7.92mm machine guns on its nose. But if there are 4x 7.92mm machine guns (2 on the nose, and 2 on the wings) then there are the C-1 and E-1 variants.

It’s insane how good you guys make the 109 pilots death genuinely emotional rather than “Wooo Nazi died”
The idea of a trainer being used as a rescue aircraft is so cool. Gives me a neat idea for a historical fiction story about a conscious objector pilot
A very human choice for the BF-109 pilot, "he's got no bullets left, our fight is over, I just want to go home"
Deere choosing to protect the Master instead of chasing kills says everything about RAF pilots!
I am continuously impressed by the level of care and quality Yarnhub puts into bringing these real stories of real people to life.
In case anyone's wondering, Deere and Leathart would both survive the war, passing away in the 1990s. Unfortunately, Allen was killed in action less than a month after receiving his medal from the king.
Man those xray shots were fire, if someone told me in 2020 that this is the yarnhub in 2026 I wouldnt believe
Imagine thinking you've escaped the plane chasing you by performing a maneuver it cannot, then realizing that it countered your escape by *just going faster.* That must have been horrifying!
7:05 WAR THUNDER TRAILER MOMENT
Now, we need a new video, the first Spitfire shooted down by a Bf 109.
As a kiwi (new zealander) myself I thank you for this video.
My uncle was Flt.WJCarr, he flew Hurricanes in the BOB, north Africa flew a P40, then transferred to the can opener MkIIb with the 40mm due to his familiarity with the Hurricane, then in 44 flew Typhoons. He never got the opportunity to fly a spit unfortunatly
