What a year so far for Westmeath, operating from D3 this spring and pipped by Wexford for promotion on the last day in a 1 point loss. But they recovered to win a 1st Leinster title in 22 years and only their 2nd in all. Beating the Dubs in Croker, 5 championship wins on the trot, ET kings, 6 points down with 10 minutes of ET to go looked all out of answers but come out swinging to win by 4 in a 10 point turnaround inside that 10 minutes. No fear, no regrets, keep it lit, seize this moment. A breath of fresh air, they deserve all the plaudits they get. And to Cavan, great credit to them, never gave up, a great football county with a great tradition, 5 All Irelands and 40 provincial crowns so still top of the pile by a distance up north and always play football the right way they gave it their all today and fell short but they will not go out of this championship without a fight. Great entertainment watching it, all still to play for.
Well done both teams. Real ferocious stuff. Brilliant for football.

Didn't see too many Westmeath men being fired over the line " like a loaf of bread!". Paudie is watching down on Westmeath with pride.
It was probably a 50:50 call, but I thought that the Cavan no 6 was fouled after taking possession of the ball just inside the Westmeath 65 right before the hooter sounded. It would have required a monstrous kick no doubt, but it would have won the game for Cavan. Dara McVeety is a still fantastic player.

Can anyone explain how cavan fouled when it was 1-30 3-21 and the ref ran up like 20 yards more??? I didn't see live and the highlights don't explain either. I couldn't see a foul
