You've reached the end
It is highly common for umpires to allow the catcher to do a few warm-up pitches so he doesn't get hurt when the play resumes!
That’s good that you let him get a warm up pitch. I bet he really appreciated that
I've seen it done before, but it's not common. Totally your call though.
If the catcher arm is hurt that he catches with, you need to see him catch a pitch at speed to make sure nothing is wrong
I started umpiring this year and on Wednesday, the catcher took a foul ball right to the throwing arm, we gave him 3 pitches and on the third he threw down to see if it hurt, he ended the night catching and he had a big welt
I’d love if more umps did that, when I catch and get hurt I can’t tell wether or not I’m still good to play sometimes
I mean if I was a umpire I’d want the person protecting me to be ready aswell lmao
is it me or where’s the pitching mound
In my short career, i have only once been behind plate when the umpire got hurt, but he couldn’t return quickly so the team subbed him out. I have been on the field when a catcher got shaken up. The umpire there gave him a few before resuming play😊
Completely your call and you made the right one. W for blue
Nope none of the umpires near me do
It almost seems like the ball hit just below his bicep, in like the elbow ditch area. And growing up all the umps I had let the catcher do that
He might of got hurt, but that was one hell of a block👍
What was that thing on the batters bat
You have a heart after all and didn't eject him! Kidding kidding...
Umm. Idk i dont play baseball also i love ur channel first
I’m gonna be honest here without trying to be rude or anything. The ball was a slow hopper the hit the catcher but he did way too much for how slow it was. I had been hit by 60 mph in the veiny and bumpy part under your wrist multiple times and took all them better than this. All I’m saying is that we need to toughen up catchers more. Try taking a 50 mph ball that slipped under your cup and hit you in your “spot” (I couldn’t feel the top of my left leg and a tiny bit of my stomach for 15 minutes)FYI this so happened in 11u travel ball
It's highly common and standard practice for all umpires in baseball to give the catcher a few warm-up pitches to prevent the pitcher from getting injured when the play resumes!
You’re very nice umpire. Thank you for letting that kid have a warm-up too. That really helped him.
“Good eye” when the ball is in the dirt, is like congratulating a fully functioning adult for putting their shoes on.
