As a baker. I can tell you that basically the only thing we put in as a conservative. Is Sorbic Acid, which is like 0.2g for 200kg of bread

Funny enough, that was one of the points why mc donalds food was supposedly bad. It wasnt expiring when other foods did and people accused it of being filled w unnatural preservatives or whatever unhealthy stuff.

I also follow Erica’s content and she shows you how to make a lot of food at home, which is awesome considering how expensive groceries are. She also has a lot of gardening and canning content if anyone is interested. I like this video because it shows that even if you know a lot of things, you can always learn more. I’m sure most of us didn’t even know what β€œwater activity” was or that it had anything to do with mold growth. As for her voice… lol.. it has to grow on you. She has an aggressive approach and I kinda like it, but I also kinda like aggressive personalities so that could just be a me thing πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

I've been baking my own bread for a while now, literally just salt, water, yeast, and flour, and it dessicates before it goes mouldy, meaning that it basically never grows mould. If I kept my bread in a sealed plastic bag after spraying it with water and placed it in the sun, it'd go mouldly, like, immediately.

I think medieval people would hate to know that we're complaining that our food doesn't spoil quickly. I also make bread at home, but that's because it's cheaper for me since I don't pay a water bill(my dorm has a full kitchen), but I have to freeze 1/2 my bread so it doesn't spoil on me

There was a whole, untouched McDonald's cheeseburger that someone left sitting perfectly atop its wrapper in the bushes of the apartment complex I used to live at. It sat there for literal weeks, over a month at least, and didn't deform, mold, or decompose in any way. Moreover, not one single microgram was consumed by any insect or rodent or bird, NOTHING. I'm not 100% fast food free, but since that time I am about 99.9% fast food free.

honestly, I've had a loaf of bread for over a month, untouched from the store, it was still fresh, no mold. so, from what I can figure, as long as you seal it properly, the atmosphere inside the bag won't change drastically enough for mold to form.

That’s why bread in Florida can mold in like a day if you’re not careful. High heat, high humidity. Literally opened a loaf we got one day, and the next, half of it was consumed by mold.

As an Australian I wish all my bread products would last at least a week without starting to get mould, some brands do sometimes depending on storage environment (namely humidity, always just leave them on the counter or in a plastic bread container) but most often not. Though in my house we typically go through loaves of white bread within a few days anyway and wholemeal up to a week depending how much I personally eat of it (I'm only one that eats the wholemeal) which depends on if I also have bread rolls or wraps (which last a long time stored in a cold place or fridge once opened).

bread a while back used to have rocks and other fillers like sand to make it cheaper. (this being the biggest reason white bread became popular as it was easier to see the filler materials in white bread compared to rye or darker breads) so if people wanna go back to breaking teeth on bread i say let em. cause it was soooo much "healthier" a few hundred years ago.

That Australian comment made me laugh. Idk where they get it but i'm still yet to find bread that goes moldy in less than 3 weeks if you keep it in appropriate conditions. And to be frank, I would also grow mold if left in a sealed plastic bag on a counter in the peak of hot rain season with no ac lol

And also, if a small piece or one slice of bread in a loaf is moldy then the whole bread is moldy, you can't remove the one slice or cut off the one spot. Bread mold spreads throughout the bread without being visible with there being the few parts that are visible. Stuff like berries you can remove the berries that are moldy and the rest are fine (Citation: Dr Mike, could be wrong but he is a doctor)

My bread molds within the week… I HATE IT. So I’ve learned to freeze half that sucker. Idk why people would complain about theirs not moldingπŸ˜…

At this point, my brain turns off for anyone yelling about how food is "unnatural" or anyone filming in a store about "don't buy this/that". It's all ignorant fear mongering when they have the surface knowledge of humanity all in their magic rectangle.
