Huh. I thought it was a one way valve that served as an exit for when the blower is on (a/c etc.) but prevented exhaust being sucked in by the vacuum created if a window is open a little bit.

My 1972 Volvo 1800ES has these. The vents are a feature of the rear wings and also part of the cabin ventilation.

My grandad told me 98% of Land Rovers ever made are still on the roads today. The other 2% actually made it home
