No, seriously…what is going on with A24's The Drama?

The way people performatively call Zendaya unattractive is so bizarre it had me rethinking my long held beliefs about beauty standards.

I am so glad that Zendaya and Robert Pattinson didn't try to sell some sort of PR romantic relationship between them when promoting this movie nor did I hear any sort of cheating rumours between the both of them during the development/filming of this movie.

Thanks for this. This was an even, well explained take. America is the “bury your trauma” capitol of the world. We never talk about anything, we’re desensitized to everything and so everything remains unresolved and on repeat. If you bring up something traumatic for ancestors, yourself, community or the nation, you’re immediately negated. So, the trauma eventually repeats and no one ever learns how to prevent it.

Robert Pattinson is 39, he turns 40 in May. The last School Pew Pew in the Britain was March 1996. He was 9. Just thought people might want to know.

At this point if people see the A24 logo and think "simple romcom" then I have many more follow up questions.

I highly recommend Does The Dog Die for people with specific triggers who want to see if their trigger is included in a movie. I check it every now and then when I’m nervous if a movie will upset me or if it’s just best to maybe skip it. It will tell you “yes” or “no” if the trigger is included and it gives a small explanation if “yes”

As a Black woman, I am so bored of the thinly veiled racism and sexism that Zendaya endures. The same regurgitated, half-baked critique follows her whether she is portraying Rue, MJ, Tasha, Chani, Marie etc. A lot of these critiques are logical fallacies straight out of a Philosophy 101 class. Many of these critiques sound eerily similar to The Drama's Rachel, her white feminism, and her "weird" projecting. I knew the backlash after the Obama years and the pendulum swing back to more open prejudice was going to be biblical, but damn.

Director personal drama aside, as a person who is an immigrant and has lived in the US for 10 years and comes from a country where the school shootings don’t happen, I’m always baffled by how sensitive to discussion (not the actual event, but solely the discussion) Americans are. Like people love to be shocked and get their panties in a twist with things that are unfortunately very common in this country.

funny how when you sensor yourself saying ""mass shooting" it actually sounds like you're saying "mass shitting", which would be a very different type of comedy.

i feel like people hate zendaya legit cause of racism. Like she is the least problematic actor we have ever honestly had...like she didn't even have a time where she went crazy to separate herself from Disney.

Tbh the director’s scandal perfectly encapsulates the question of the movie, and the one part that I felt the movie was lacking in. How do we perceive the worst things we have ever done vs what others have done? Additionally, how does our race, gender, privileges, etc. impact that? I’m not surprised that another white male director was an inappropriate relationship with a young girl. They clearly don’t see any problem with it the way we do. I wish they had updated the material of the film a little bit more to reflect the fact that Zendaya was a black woman because watching this as a black woman, I felt like the conversations were missing an integral piece by not bringing up the race aspect. The way we are judged and judge ourselves changes completely based on those two factors.

I think we all know why Zendaya gets the brunt of unfair criticism 🥲

I saw this movie not knowing it was going to be involving gun violence. I was shocked to say the least, but I enjoyed it overall. I think the film did its best to address this topic. I personally did not take offensive of it, but it was hard to watch. I am a school psychologist in the USA, so I am critical on how movies handle mental health. During this movie I was on edge, but laughed at parts that I needed to laugh at. Robert and Zendaya did a great job. The story itself can be very sensitive for lots of people. My overall take on the movie is how much are you going to accept your partners past and current flaws? Will you love them regardless of their past? How much are you going to share your most personal, deepest self to the one you love?

I feel the same, I actually like the film more after sitting with it. The part that I found SO interesting and a conclusion I haven’t really seen explored in reviews or videos: it was clear after everyone was done saying their “worst thing they’ve ever done” that Rachel was deflecting with her reaction because her act of locking the mentally disabled child WAS clearly the worst thing that had been done at that table. I was flabbergasted by her immediate ability to shift blame for a THOUGHT when hers actually occurred. Wild. Rachel’s whole arc actually disgusted me to my core and was the part of the movie I found the most disturbing.

anyway that conspiracy theory abt this all being a plot to force Zendaya into promoting euphoria is truly sending me because WHY would HBO fuck over the star of one of their biggest and most expensive shows? 💀

You said it well: the movie is about a relationship being tested over the worst thing your partner’s done. I will say I need a trigger warning when the DJ was setting up at wedding. Everyone JUMPED up!

The director is a gross person. But hating on the actors? That makes absolutely no sense here.
