Some of the best RPGs on Steam are buried so deep that most people don’t even know they exist. And honestly, it’s kind of insane how many of these hidden gems have combat systems, worlds, and progression loops better than games with ten times the budget. So today, we’re talking about twelve genuinely fantastic hidden gem RPGs that somehow have less than two thousand reviews on Steam, and in some cases, less than three hundred. ✅ Enjoyed the video? I was so hyped for Star Renegades, the pixel art looks incredible, but the rogue elements make it virtually unplayable as an RPG for me.
Appreciate you giving Those Who Rule a shout out! We actually just crossed the 1,000 review mark today. I can vouch for Kingsvein and the Expeditions series as well, great games!
Ara Fell is also on the Steam queue (So. Many. GAMES!)
The first time I found out about the Soul Cannon in Fuga, it actually brought me to tears over what it did (as part of the tutorial, you're forced to use it, so having to watch one of your characters give up their life, even though WE only knew them a short time, it hurt!)
OMG thanks for making me discover Star Renegades. The pixel art makes me remember of "Beyond Galaxyland" which is what I'm actively looking for. Thanks ! :)
Fuga and fuga 2 are done really well it's underrated af
Thanks for the tips!
There's a 3d titan quest game for mobile. It's called TITAN SOULS MOBILE and it's absolutely amazing
Chroma Squad is awesome. It didn't get played because Haim Saban tried to shut it down for even slightly resembling Power Rangers. The devs compromised by putting "inspired by Power Rangers" on the title screen and marketing stuff but IMO they never recovered from that fight.
"Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition" title at 26:04 :)
From this video the ones I have and can recomend: Athermancer and Star Renegades are my top, then Ara Fell and Melodies of Steel. I also bought Jack Move and Those Who Rule but didn't try them yet.
Battlechasers: Nightwar, is another SICK RPG game, that is so good and hidden, along many great games, on Steam. Thanks!
Yep, played all of them. Favorite on the list? Probably the Ys game, since those are AMAZING as a series, Falcom has only made 3 bad ones in the whole list, which is a good ratio, one that only the likes of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy tend to hit. For the one that probably affected me the most as a story, Fuga. That is some...rather deep stuff to put on those kids. Also, I kept having PTSD flashbacks every time the .hack ping played. Someone goes into a coma when they hear that in the .hack world. Still annoyed that someone tried to 'correct' me when I pointed out that the first three games dance around the idea of the Akashic Record, only for the third game to throw it in your face. They then talk about how Juno ISN'T the record, and they're kind of right, but they are the interface for it(for those unaware, basically the record is 'All Knowledge', and tends to break the brain when you access it). Anyway, good list, nice descriptions, as always.
I'm sorry, what? Ys series silent since 2003? The hell you talking about?
Played Melodies of Steel on my Switch 1, loved it and somehow didn't have to sacrifice any one, another fun set is the doom and destiny games, short, simple and comical, definitely worth a playthrough or two
i tried to play Ys VI many times, but it never grow on me id like soooo much to see more games like star ocean 3, it was a masterpiece imho
I bought Jack Move last weekend and was instantly hooked. The techno synth-pop music, smooth-as-butter animation and entrancing narrative is mindbogglingly addictive, forcing you to continue on just to see where the story goes.
Great list! So many Indie lists have the same 10 games. I've never heard of most of these. Surprised with the Ys entry though
Wow, amazing list
