That graph at the end really illustrates the fact that the only period of competition was between the Andrew G era and the Niftski Era. It's crazy how many of the most competed for games have these eras where one player just dominated the scoreboard despite the efforts of dozens if not hundreds of other very skilled competitors. It makes me wonder if there is a biological (neurological?) or sociological explanation.
The dip in viewer retention for the framerule explanation is amazing
idk why, or how, cuz I've seent like 100's of your videos, but you got me. "And that's been the record to this day!" Shows really long straight red line. You got me so good.
I get it's a short speedrun but the fact that they're using millisecond increments is insane
You should have the "percieved human limit" shown as another line on the graph that shows how what people thought of the human limit changed overtime and how quick they improved as it changed
You know, I really like the blooper that gets its head stomped when Mario falls off the ledge after touching the axe in -3. :) Just a little detail I noticed.
Bro. You still alive? We need more. I hope the long pause is for OOT.
patiently awaiting the next. love your content man about to support on patreon
Honestly the first guy deserves a load of credit for only being like 6 seconds away from the eventual MACHINE best. That's a pretty slim margin
I would love to see summoning salt make a video on cod zombie easteregg speedruns
Shout out summoning salt for putting in all this work for all his videos.
24 years to realize that the minus world levels aren't actually the game displaying negative numbers, but the world number spot being blank
I have to say... the "We're Finally Landing" remix you've been using for the last handful or two of videos has been a nice change of pace, but I do like the OG version and hope you'll go back to using it. Maybe you could use both? Remix to start the video, OG to end the video, or vice versa?
SSalt does an incredible job of storytelling and getting me invested in speedrunning games I normally wouldn’t watch.
"The record was 1 framerule away from the human limit!" >checks timestamp >half the video still left
40:32 "It wasn't a great clip. But thanks to the 8 frames saved on the setup, he wound up beating somewes by 1 frame." This category of speedrunning is nuts.
I remember being a kid and seeing people talk about tricks that “aren’t humanly possible” like the flagpole glitch and thinking “it sounds like you guys just aren’t good enough” and it is very gratifying to discover that the community felt the same way
Your videos touch me deeply. Like the best movies I watched in amazement as a child. They take me away to another place... and in that other place anything is possible. You produce dreams, not videos. And I thank you so much for what you do. Thank you, Thank you Thank you a thousand times.
It's crazy that the entire history of this record only brings the time down by 7 seconds. Speedrunners are something else.
48:27 "...and the term 'human limit' becomes meaningless." This has to be one of the most impactful statements you've ever written out and spoken in any of your documentaries. This is the essence of our incredible hobby. Keep doing what you're doing, salt.
