How did they end up in the third chamber - if they did not have flashlights? Are flashlights part of the standard equipment used in recreational diving?

They only had one tank each for such a deep dive. That‘s the first mistake.

You also should have a line from the entrance that you are in contact with throughout exploration. If visibility is poor you can follow the line back out by "ok'ing" the line.

I’m 50 years old with over 800 logged dives. I find it hard to believe that a 20 year old could be qualified for a 60m cave dive of this nature. Diving a cave at this depth is next level tech diving. It’s not your “holiday” scuba dive excursion. Very few 20 year olds would qualify.

Does anyone know why they dont take a line or something which they can use to retrace their movements in case they cannot see or become disoriented?

I’m wiling to bet the daughter panicked and her mom tried to help which lead to others losing their lives helping them. Just sad.

I am not quite sure that the music, specially that kind of, is appropiate in this context. This is probably not an episode of Bay Watch!

It seems like at 50 meters they would have had only a short amount of time before they would’ve had to start for the surface with the associated stops on the way up.

Cave diver here. First of all, it’s 100% a human error tragedy. Even the best open water divers have no qualification for cave diving. It’s a different discipline requiring different knowledge and equipment. And just small corrections: Air becomes already narcotic at 18 meters (not 40), we just don’t usually feel it, but the deeper we go, the more we feel nitrogen narcosis. And it doesn’t put us to sleep, not in a sense most people would imagine. It makes us feel kind of drunk (slowed reactions, confusion, inability to think clearly, dizziness and similar)
