One of the most requested games so far, if not the most. Released in 1987 for the NES, Legacy of the Wizard is truly one of the hardest games I've ever played. It's cryptic, janky, and it softlocks you every 30 minutes. Get comfy for the ride. I really appreciate Poo's blind playthroughs. It's so difficult to find videos that aren't from AVGN rip-offs, or expert players with speedrun level knowledge.
I can't believe I had never heard of this game. The music SLAPS!
This defines the unbeatable series. i couldn't even imagine trying this as a kid. if Zelda II was impossible, this game isn't even in the same universe. Thank you Poo for fixing our childhood mistakes.
I never understood what I was even supposed to do the one time I rented it.
Once again, as always, my gauntlet is on the floor, the challenge laid. Chakan: the Forever Man.
I loved this game as a kid, had no idea wtf I was doing though
The map on graph paper will cover half of your living room floor
Back to the Future II/III for NES still takes the crown. Imagine if you had this kind of map, but in three dimensions, and you had to find items and then deliver them to a completely random spot elsewhere on the map. Just getting TO the items is janky platforming, and collecting the items themselves was a second form of ball-busting platforming difficulty. On top of that, if you try to deliver the item to the wrong spot, it gets deleted and you have to do it all over again. The TAS for this is almost 90 minutes long. It is an ordeal that would take a regular person who knows exactly what they're doing and where to go probably 4-5 hours. No saves. No passwords to save progress (though there is one to skip to part III). Unlimited continues at least, but it is an ordeal.
I spent an entire summer over at my cousin's house beating this game, back in the early 90s. We drew our own maps, and took notes on what was where. It was... an ordeal. Still, one of my favorites!
I'm watching this while i'm drunk at 4am and I've got one eye closed because I get double vision
The music in this game is incredible. Takes me back to sitting in my room in the late 80's being totally confused as to where to go next.
One of my favorite games, "Golgo 13: Top Secret Mission" was the hardest in my collection. I could NOT get through that stupid Wolfenstein-like maze.
I loved this game as a kid, but I had no idea how to get much of anywhere. I'd just play it, and in my imagination, it was a great game. If I could just figure out where to go. But I never really did. I would stumble into solutions to the first areas over time, but that was about it. The dog being basically unkillable by enemies started a whole argument once with my sisters because we were told to take turns when we died. So I picked the dog, knowing I could basically just live forever. My sisters eventually realized what was going on.
Refreshed at the right time! Time to watch during breakfast.
So glad you finally played this. Seeing someone experience it for the first time is truly a treasure.
45:16 Okay the HUD totally changing for the one on one final battle is kind of slick.
Chat spoiling the double jump trick shaved off like 5 hrs from the run 🤣
One of the games I rented as a kid and literally got nowhere.
I made it a good ways into the game back in the 80’s but I never managed to beat it until emulation and the internet. I honestly would love to see a spiritual sequel!
Most requested game? Holy shit, I thought my brothers and I were like the only ones that remember Legacy of the Wizard. I don't remember how hard it was, but another one that was a one-off but really good is Guardian Legend. It's like Actraiser, two types of games in one.
