The storage locker - where dreams go to die
We 50-something guys understand this. Nice.
I've been "collecting" (cough cough..roms) for decades and it's amazing how little I play them. The collecting was the exciting part, having things I didn't have growing up.
"Having a working museum piece in your house" says the man literally surrounded by working museum pieces. 😄
"Having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting" -Spock
I have a full size custom made arcade machine in my mancave that has every arcade game ever made on it and I have not turned it on in over a year. I was so excited when I got it.
I would like the original Sega Rally ❤
As I’m getting older, I think I have come to terms with this issue - I‘m not feeling guilty anymore for just „having“ things around which I love, even if I don’t use them much at all.
A OPERATION WOLF arcade machine is my dream. Thanks for sharing.
I think a Ms. Pacman cocktail table would be my dream arcade cabinet. I don't think it would get much use though. I have pleasant memories of sitting at one with my new wife in 1999. The place we were honeymooning at still had a functional original.
"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true." Mr. Spock
Full size, stand-up version of the original “Star Wars” (1983) by Atari. That’s my holy grail game.
Lived in a share house with three lads in 1992 and we talked about acquiring a Gauntlet II cabinet. We had our preferences ready and everything (I’d play green wizard). We’d get those bolt-on ashtrays for either side too. 🚬 We talked to an arcade owner and learnt the cost and our dreams popped like a lit cigarette stabbed into a balloon.
Afterburner with the moving cabinet also
A Bubble Bobble machine was the dream for me.
I wanted a Tron video game. About 10 years ago I had an opportunity to buy 3. I completely restored all 3, sold 2, kept the best one for myself. After a year I barely touched it, but I loved looking at it. In 2020 I was offered a ridiculous amount for it and let it go. I don’t miss it.
The music during the assembly had a very strong "Man About The House"-vibe.
Defender for me Mat👍
Defender, Joust or Tempest would be the arcade games I would choose if I had space in my home. I was in my late teens in the early 80's and my weekends were spent in the local arcade.
I would want an Addams family pinball machine!!! 🤠👍
