Alonso clearly wasn't Liverpool's main target or he'd currently be Liverpool's manager.

I really don’t think Xabi was the top target for LFC as much as the fans wanted him. If Liverpool wanted him last year before he went to Madrid, with the way the season has gone, and Xabi being available, if he was still the top choice a year later, I think the club would’ve already moved for him before the season ended.
