I honestly thought the mother keeping her in was actually alluding to the fact that at some point they might’ve gotten stuck in the backrooms, hiding in a home replica. The mother is not sane but when they escape tries to explain what she saw and is thought to be insane

The final shot of Backrooms is chilling with the deformed human clone being trapped inside the Backrooms! It’s breaking Box Office records for A24 & taking down Star Wars! It’s so amazing for horror!

Thank you for making this video. I had not seen all of the Backrooms videos so my knowledge of the Backrooms was basic to say the least. I knew a few things going in. But, I saw the movie earlier today and while I thoroughly enjoyed, I was left feeling confused at some points. You clarified those things perfectly and now I appreciate the movie more than I did originally.

14:48 I more thought that Clark died earlier and he was a regenerated version of himself at the dinner scene. He still bled/felt pain because he's only one version off from his real self instead of several times copied over versions of the others at the table.

I absolutely loved this film. I am a gigantic fan of slow burn horror and when the action picked up it raised my heart rate. This is genuinely one of my favourite horror films in recent years

I am absolutely loving your enthusiasm. I'm gonna (hopefully remember to) return here once I've seen the movie and edit this comment

18:03 that’s the beauty of the backrooms to me tho. It’s this concept that we all had different interpretations of and what it means and represents. This was Kane’s interpretation of what that is and it’s symbolisms were rlly cool

I love how this movie lets the people have their own theory’s. I believe that when mark duplas is character is saying that the back rooms is constantly opening doors, that’s when it makes the copy of it around, and that’s why we see her still life and all the missing posters as there was another opening and the back rooms took another snap of the world where jt was at now.

My theory on why the Backrooms dupliated Mary from the interrogation scene is that ASYNC is keeping her in the backrooms and thats how it knew to duplicate that moment. Phil wasnt wearing a hazmat suit while interrogating Mary so that tells me they are not in the Backrooms during the interrogation scene. From what we saw, the interrogation wasn't anything terrible up until the point Mary asked "What is going to happen to me" and Phil replies "Thats not up to me." I bet when the camera cut, they sent her back into the Backrooms, and then it duplicated that trauma: the moment she was told she had to go back in. I would think the Dinner Party scene would be pretty traumatizing for Mary but for some reason, the Backrooms picked the interrogation scene to duplicate. Very interesting.

For me; The weird switches on the breaker proves IT can come into the real world. Deeper; Validates Mary's mother's paranoia.

11:43 my husband hasn’t seen or gotten into backrooms the same as me, but he was able to piece a ton of the lore together. The film actually condensed a lot of the lore and mystery, so anyone could use the film as their entry (null zone? lol) into the backrooms lore or enjoy it as a stand-alone story. The effect is a choose your own adventure! The best part is that if you WANT to engage with kane’s story more, there is a tonnage of material waiting for you.

I love the theme of your unhandled trauma will eat you alive, literally in Clark's sense. Backrooms is kinda like a shroom/acid trip, where your subconscious manifests in front of you and you're faced with the things you've tried to suppress. Also super cool with how the fly entered the backrooms, meaning the fly's views are being copied which will only add to the distorted nightmare fuel if encountered by humans. It would be cool and creepy to see what the backrooms creates from the fly's perspective

This might be reaching, but the chair narrative and the parallels to Clark being stuck I found really interesting. For most of the movie it felt like, before the back rooms we saw Clark sitting in chairs which represents him being stagnant in his life and not being able to move on, Even his first instinct when he got into the back rooms was to take apart the two chairs because he wanted to sit down, he also went back into the back rooms to grab a chair to sit down. In his commercial he ends it by sitting down on a chair and it breaking possibly showing that him staying stagnant like this is unstable. While Clark is in the back rooms that's where we see most of his movement, showing him being able to move forward and eventually, come to terms. Compare that to Mary, who wasn't so stuck in her ways. She is standing and moving through a lot of the movie. In the party scene she's walking around, she goes and chases after Clark, she runs from pirate Clark, and she's really only seen sitting at the end which contrasts Clark's more stationary choreography

I think that the Captain Carl entity was almost exactly the right blend of utterly terrifying and downright goofy- Not "scary" in the traditional sense, but "uncanny." Which is what the film was going for- the Backrooms are scary because everything is ever so slightly "off."

i got a tiny bit confused at the end with that whole montage of things in the backrooms then a still life Mary until i realised that it's just showing that there is a copy of her in the complex now
