The unforgettable horror pushed Zach Cregger’s name to the forefront and it’s one of my favourite films from this decade. Filled with constant twists and turns, the blending of genres and just…just a weird unsettling tone…Weapons made me wanna revisit this movie. So throughout the film we’ll be breaking it down and talking about all the twisted things within it. With that out the way thank you for clicking this…now lets get into Barbarian. Ok so Cregger came up with the idea for the film after reading the book The Gift Of Fear. Written by Gavin De Becker in 1997…it talks about how violence is predictable. I’m sure we’ve all been out walking at night…and youve seen like a dark alley that you almost wanna go down. Something inside says that you shouldnt and thus you avoid taking that path. And who knows what couldve happened. Couldve ended up watching Screen Crush.

Okay, so the PINS thing goes WAY deeper than that. In your brain you have something called mirror neurons which fire not only when you perform an action (you have neurons for causing and action, and for analyzing an action) but also when somebody else performs an action, hence a 'mirror'. THESE are what let you approximate what another person is thinking and feeling on an intrinsic level, causing the spooky feelings like the sense that you're being watched. Their full functionality is their own thesis but those red flags you feel but cant describe, mirror neurons. There is even a working theory that your mirror neurons will attempt to approximate the firing of the other person's mirror neurons which are attempting to mimic your actionary neurons, a sort of he knows that I know that he knows that I know effect which CAN MULTIPLY in waves.
funny enough riki tiki tavi is a metaphorical song about taking power yerself over things.
Riki Tiki Tavi was originally a character in The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. He's a mongoose who saves an English family living in India by fighting snakes. The song is about said mongoose, but its really about loyalty and standing up against threats. It's ironic that AJ is introduced singing this song, because that boy has no loyalty at all.
Please do a breakdown of the Jeepers Creepers movies. Justin Long is great.
Sweden is right next to Norway, so I can “art-appreciate” having the opening start with red-herring portrayed not by a Norwegian but it’s next door neighbor - a Swede.
fun fact : seized houses by the banks in detroit, the ones shown on the clip of the real street are sold for 1$ from the bank or the gvt to collect the taxes which are in the 30k 40k a year. and still no takers what so ever lol
I never purchased YT merch but those shirts might be my first
Hi Paul 👋
bro that was a craxy hit at screencrush
When they first showed the mother, my mind went racing to the iconic Spanish horror movie Rec. The creature almost looks like an exact double. You should check the Rec series out, if you haven't come across it.
Im going to watch weapons after this then your breakdown on it. Keep it coming man
I will say; the 'time shift' to Carlos' story threw me off for a minute, until the end of it when we heard a woman screaming from the basement.
I kid you not, I was looking forward to reading a breakdown, but didn’t watch the movie yet so I stopped this down and spent a couple hours. The entire time I’m watching I’m saying. - this doesn’t seem like horror and humor to me, but whatever…it’s kind of interesting. I had read a few comments and the recommendation was to go in blind. I didn’t think anything more it *really* got into the movie. Having come back to this, I looked at the thumbnail and thought - I don’t even remember that guy. After some detective work, I now realize I watched Barbarians (2021) and not Barbarian (2022)…and I ain’t even mad about it! Oh, and now I’m watching the breakdown because I realized I’d seen it the whole time anyhow - ha! You still get a thumbs up and thanks for the extra movie!
Great breakdown! After this, and Weapons, Cregger has become my new favorite horror director! I love his tonal shifts, his non-linear storytelling, fantastic dialogue, and believable characters.
I knew literally nothing about this movie (other than it was horror) before going to see it. I hadn't even seen a trailer. I just knew that it was getting great reviews and was all over social media, so I went to see it before it got ruined by a stupid spoilery headline or comment somewhere. What a wild ride😂. That convinced me to not watch trailers (or at least no more than the first one) or read anything about a movie before I see it, which has honestly been great so far.
:00 this is the fate of Oedipus, in Sophocles' Oedipus Rex.
Waitt what was that song?? 😭 I used to listen to it everyday as a kid
I think u in gladys cosplay made us appreciate ur commitment even more u should prob expect bout 20k more followers after that stunt...😅top marks👌👌👌👌
Riki Tiki Tavi is a mongoose that slayed a cobra. It's an allegory for defeating our inner "snakes," or demons if you will. The song and snake hanging in the rear view mirror are meant to imply he's a snake, no matter how easy going he seems to be
Awesome breakdown, these type of movies give me good reminders and flashbacks of my 2 year Mormon mission.
