We follow Chris, a young photographer who goes to visit his girlfriend Rose Armitage’s family with her. Upon arriving strange things begin to happen and he unearths that the Armitages have developed a procedure in which they can transfer the minds of people into shell bodies. Chris is their next target and he is auctioned off to the highest bidder and hypnotised into being submissive. However he manages to escape before the procedure happens and kills the family before they can enact their plan. That’s a brief overview but just to get you up to speed before the breakdown. Get Out Opening Scene Easter Eggs Now the movie opens with Andre Hayworth walking through a suburban area at night whilst he’s on the phone to his girlfriend. Andre becomes a prominent figure later in the film and we learn that he was actually subjected to the same procedure that Chris narrowly escapes from. A car drives by him and it begins to intimidate him before abducting him. Now there are a couple of things to take from this scene, firstly Rose is clearly on the phone to him and this is how the car is able to track him. The person says stay put, we’ll come and get you to which Andre replies with ‘theres no need’ He gives his location and then they show up. Andre got lost looking for Peacock avenue and it is likely that these directions were fake. Peacocking is a term that is often used to for a male to attract a mate but here it could be twisted round to be Rose attracting Andre to this spot so that Jeremy can abduct him. Another interesting aspect is that the car Jeremy drives in is White on the outside and black on the inside. This of course is a nod to the fact that black people are later sent to the sunken place whilst a white person inhabits their shell. From here we cut to the title scene which has blue writing over the top of a forest which is intentionally meant to be a nod to the Shining which is one of Peele’s favourite films…and mine too. After the brief credits sequence we can hear the song redbone by childish gambino. Not only is it a banger it also has some elements of the song that play out here which foreshadow the rest of the film. The chorus in the song later changes up to contain the following: But stay woke (stay woke) – As in don’t go to sleep Chris. They gon’ find you (they gon’ find you) Gon’ catch you sleepin’ – as in don’t go to sleep Chris I’m telling you. And the chorus ends with Now don’t you close your eyes – again highlighting this point. As we tour his apartment we can see a white child wearing a dark mask and peering out from behind it. This once more is a reference to the white people wearing black people as a mask. Upon Rose arriving there we can see a chain that looks slightly like an unlocked slave handcuff and though I may be reading into this I think it highlights that Chris eventually ends up free from the family after almost becoming their slave. ► Artist Attribution Music By: "KaizanBlu" • Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kaizanblu/ • SoundCloud - https://soundcloud.com/kaizanblu/ • Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/kaizanblumusic/ • TikTok - @kaizanblu http://vm.tiktok.com/aCYwfx/ • YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUtx... • DOWNLOAD @ https://www.chilloutmedia.com/kaizanblu Licence: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) - Full licence here: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... • Music released by: Chill Out Records @ https://goo.gl/fh3rEJ & https://www.LoFi-HipHop.com "Vibes" Instrumental by Homage https://youtu.be/cgTMK54xpL0

When the milk/cereal part came up, I was expecting "This clearly shows that Rose is a psychopath".

10:22 - reminded me of a funeral procession; all the guests coming to see the dead man.

Georgina's "hair" is a wig. When Chris photographed her through the window she was lifting her wig to look at the scar on her forehead.

Remember when Chris uses the word "snitch" to Georgina but she doesn't understand and uses an old word "telltale"

Chris’s childhood trauma is leaving his mother bleed to death on the road which is what happened to Rose in the end.

I think the deer in the movie also represent how Chris is being hunted. At the beginning, when the deer crashes into the car, it shows how the deer is running, but can't escape danger. It's mimicked in the way the officer antagonizes Chris; he can run, but never escape racism. As you mentioned, Dean expresses his distain for deer, which although you stated was him lying (since he has them as decoration), I don't think he was. I think he was showing his distain for the living being. As if he hates deer when they are alive, but is fine with them as decorations. This is shown in how he hates blacks when they are themselves, but are fine with them when they have a white person in control. As for Chris killing Dean with the deer head, it symbolizes how although Chris was being hunted the whole time, he came out as the hunter. The deer was used to show him breaking free from the grasp that the family had on him.

Two probably obvious things I noticed: 1.) the first time we see Rose she is choosing which pasty (I think) she is going to order before ultimately deciding on one, similar to how she chooses her victims. 2.) Jeremy is in med school learning how to become a neurosurgeon so that one day he can perform the surgery on his father, and also to continue the family’s “business”

One thing this video missed was that when Chris discovers the photos, it shows both Georgina and Walter. Rose stole both of them away and seduced them to become the bodies her grandparents would inhabit. Rose's method of romantic seduction takes longer but is less violent. Jeremy's method is violent, which his mother doesn't like as shown when she says "you've already damaged him enough" after Chris wants Rose to find the keys.

The way Jeremy tries to keep Chris away from the door makes me think that it is symbolic of opportunity and freedom, things often kept away from black people. What gets him through the door is that he notices the pattern (Jeremy kicks the door every time). Maybe this is symbolic of how in order to escape oppression you need to see the patterns and systemic issues.

Its ironic that the way Rose dies is the same way Chris' mom died. Bleeding to death, on the road, cold and alone.... and this time Chris did something...He walked away. How satisfying!

I don't care what nobody say when I seen that black man running through the backyard late at night in a janitor outfit like a maniac, my ass would have left that night. Lol

".. They all show up in Black cars, perhaps suggesting that they wish to be in a black vehicle.".. -maybe because it represents a funeral procession?

I think the Omega symbols at the entrance of the house might actually represent the last victim entering the house, seeing as Chris effectively put an end to their lunacy

One thing that I noticed with Rose is the way she does her hair. In the beginning it’s always down- metaphorically a curtain? Then at the house she has it half down half up. Then after Chris is first captured, the first thing she does is put her hair up tight, like she’s pulled back the curtain to show who she really is.

Rose eating the cereal that way was the most disturbing part of the movie 😂 never made the connection before now. Very good attention to detail.

I watched this with my parents, who told me the chanting in the beginning of the movie is in Swahili. They translated it to me as "Something bad is coming for you. Run."
