Pearl could’ve just lied and said she’s on a diet or something

Honestly if I was Steven, I’d just take Greg and say my mum was out of town

I think the theme of alexandrite is in the wedding episode but same small segment in this episode when they fight blue diamond

Idk I think Connie lying to her parents when she’s 12 is kinda reasonable. If they found out that her first time meeting Steven nearly ended with her almost getting crushed by rocks, getting hit by a roller coaster, falling to the bottom of the ocean and almost getting crushed by a worm monster, I think they would be quick to make sure she never interacted with Steven again.

I really don’t get why Connie lied about Rose. Like what a doctor is going to question how a woman died during birth? If she needed to explain the Crystal Gems just say they are his aunts who watch him while his dad is working

8:56 Tbh her theme is also an “incomplete” theme. Cause it’s missing Rose/Steven to become Obsidian’s theme. The beginning is very similar to Obsidians and everything

I mean connie is a kid, of course she lies, to her not being able to hang out with Steven IS the end of the world cuz it's the only thing her parents don't have control over, so she's going to make her relationship with Steven seem perfect exactly so they don't get curious and don't meddle... Not understanding characters like Connie just show that you're old or that you had a very happy childhood and really don't understand neglect

In my opinion, I don’t think youre seeing Connie’s situation correctly. Helicopter parents and neglectful parents aren’t opposites and can be one in the same a lot of the time. I know this because I’ve had friends and cousins have their parents monitor them extremely but go on to neglect the basics about having a child. And about the part about Connie lying is that she is a kid/preteen who is afraid of upsetting her parents. When you have to walk on eggshells all the time, you can easily end up making decisions that, in hindsight, are stupid. I remember being Connie’s age and being afraid to tell my parents that my friend had two moms instead of a mom and a dad in the house. I think youre forgetting that Connie is a child. Yes she’s a smart one but I’ve met plenty of smart kids who go on and make bad decisions just like any other child.

8:57 we actually get to hear more of alexandrite's theme when she throws down with malachite on mask island!

5:15 Agreed I feel like if I found out my friends mom was a giant my first reaction to them would be asking her father Where Did You Find that Thing

I feel like Connie can just lie and say Steven’s mom’s dead and her parents wouldn’t ask anything about his mother, it’s just that easy

for the part about OA having a moon continuity thing, i’d just like to point out that his is full moon continuity, this is half moon continuity

7:20 pretty sure it’s cause they were unstable. It’s also why you can see a clear difference in who’s talking in pretty much all of alexandrite’s lines in this episode

I think the commie thing makes more sense if you’ve lived it. Her parents might not be acoustically over protective but they clearly have high expectations. It makes sense that she wants to portray her friends in a way that doesn’t make more questions pop up just in case they try and tell her she shouldn’t hang out with him

Dude, WHAT?! Connie absolutely has the most resonable decisions in this episode (excluding the bus), alexandrite shouldve just morphed into a normal size and gotten better at pretending.

I have to be honest, something I always think about with this episode is how much easier it would have been to tell the Maheswarans that Rose died in childbirth... but that would likely be too painful to bring up. I think it could be an interesting way to add a bit of character development if it was actually brought up as a possibility but Greg flatly refused and struggled to explain why. Some of the other comments pointed out that Connie is probably not an unbiased narrator when describing her mom. I get the impression that the real deal with the Maheswarans is that they're kind of... neglectful? Not paying enough attention to their daughter to notice that her glasses don't have lenses, let alone that she's been sneaking out since the beginning of the show. Priyanka is presumably too busy with work to pay much attention (she's a doctor...) and Doug... doesn't exactly give great parent vibes? Idk, I just don't get the impression that he's really stepping up to fill Priyanka's shoes while she's out on work for 80 hours a week (i mean, they both work full time jobs and yet never mention hiring a babysitter or nanny? I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to leave a 12-year old home alone even for a day, let alone probably several days a week) Also, hot take, but... I don't really mind Red Delicious apples. Maybe I have stockholm syndrome.
