Just weeks before D-Day in 1944, U.S. soldiers were eating full meals with meat, vegetables, and juice while sitting on ammo crates. Many historians believe Americaβs powerful supply system became one of the Alliesβ biggest hidden weapons in World War II. An army that never runs out of food never runs out of strength. What do you think was the Alliesβ biggest advantage in WWII? And nothing to do with the BRITISH Breaking the Enigma machine and TRICKING the entire german war machine into thinking D DAY was going to happen somewhere else
going to war a few years after everyone helps too.
Logistics is, and to this day, has always been what the U.S. Military has been the best at. Maybe second only to killing people.
What is always missing in these videos . Is the recognition to all who helped the war effort back home . On the farms in the factories etc without these people our soldiers wouldβve been destroyed.
People don't appreciate what an abundance of supply can do. Operation Cobra to breakout of Normandy was something you can do with an abundance of supply. The literally picked a spot 7,000 yards wide on the front and had a mass of heavy bombers bomb that section and then poured an armored division through the wide open gap. That bombing run basically destroyed a german armored division in one pass. They weren't aiming for the tanks. They aimed for the basically the terrain the tanks were in and cratered the whole thing. Meanwhile other armies would build up supplies for an attack and it was obvious where the attack would be because the supplies were building up. Then the attack happens, the supply is used up and there is a lull in offensive operations. The US had so much supply you couldn't guess where an attack was coming based upon in. The only real times were supplies were a massive issue was Guadalcanal and at one point after D-day where fuel supplies were a bit challenging. The former situation was due to the issues of ships hanging around to offload would get destroyed. The latter was because unloading fuel over the beach was incredibly slow. Or to put it another way when you have severe shortages in supply you don't take chances. When you have an abundance you routinely shoot at every noise and you make artillery support available to even small formations when they call for it.
But thatβs ai
Werenβt many men sick from food poisoning from eating something the night before
Logistics... the US built all the allied powers' logistical capabilities. Yes, this includes the USSR... The logistical capabilities of the US in WW2 rocked the USSRs' defensive strategies for fighting the US and caused them to completely overhaul all their previous strategies because they wouldn't work.
