This is only one example of where the Chinese car market is going, if I was a legacy car manufacturer I would be very worried.
12 months in on owning a Tiggo 4, car is amazing. Almost no bing bonging, some dash warnings and the performance is great, the driving is perfectly fine and I am not paying for the supposed cache of a traditional make - remembering if I buy a Toyota I am PAYING for the lesser depreciation, its not some free benefit.
Fun fact: for 2025 Chery was awarded the Most Reliable Chinese Car Brand in China on average for all its vehicles. Different brands had better vehicles at specific segments, but as for the overall most reliable Chinese brand, it was Chery, ahead of names like BYD, GAC, Geely. It scored similar to Nissan in the country.
I hope this video shuts up those stereotypings of china car being cheap coz low labor cost, bad quality and govt subsidies for good. they do need to improve service coverage and spare part availability in oz tho.

One massive thing people completely miss about why Chinese rides give you so much bang for buck is their bulletproof, all-in-one domestic supply chain. Let's be real here: half the screws, washers, and wiring looms in your fancy Euro or Japanese car are sourced from Chinese factories anyway. Can you imagine if Holden had to import every single one of those bits while copping global freight fees, customs, and Australia's absolute killer local labor costs? It's no wonder the local manufacturing couldn't survive. Chinese brands sidestep that entire headache. They assemble everything right at the source, so the only major logistics cost passed on to us is the final boat ride over here. It’s pure supply chain dominance. Just look at ZX MOTO in the bike scene right now. Launched only in 2024, they've tapped into this insane supply chain to sell bikes at a fraction of a Yamaha's price tag. The kicker? They’ve already bagged 5 race wins in the 2026 WorldSSP championship, going handlebar-to-handlebar and sorting out the old guard like Ducati, Kawasaki, and Honda. And remember, WorldSSP is for production-based showroom bikes, not some million-dollar one-off MotoGP prototypes. They are giving the big boys a proper hiding using standard production hardware. To be fair, Chinese cars still have a few minor fit-and-finish bugs and quirks to sort out. Fair enough, because China's road infrastructure is top-tier now, so cars built for their home market rarely have to deal with the absolute shockers we call roads out in the Aussie bush. But once the global market fully opens up and their focus shifts from "designing for China" to "designing for the world," those small kinks will be a non-issue through rapid iteration. Once they crack that, you've got to ask yourself: what have the legacy Western brands actually got left?

Those range of Genelec speakers in that room are 3 to 20K each-. Regarding the being able to make things cheaply in China, a massive piece of that is very cheap power. The government, unlike every single Western government, as invested massively in renewable energy AND nuclear AND gas AND coal.
Chery is offering lifelong warranty to Chinese drivers in China. I hope they bring this to Australia as well. Goes to show their confidence and commitment to customers.
If industry in Australia was anywhere near the newer facilities in China, Paul might still be working as a mechanical engineer. I walked away from my trade with a major manufacturer in the 80’s because we were loosing the plot and not modernising to improve efficiency. Always chase profit , never spend on innovation.

Ford CEO said, We’re twenty-five years behind main Chinese manufacturers. Even Musk went to China to have them build a new modern factory and fix Tesla production issues.
Lets hope the spare parts manufacturing process can provide into the future and the cost is not exorbitant?
