The reason so much of Fallout is built around these short scenes is so Amazon can shove a dozen ads in between for Febreeze without it breaking up the show too much.

Mind control chips that explode is such a boring plot device. Dead Money works because the explosive collars DON'T control your mind, because they DON'T make you a perfectly obedient robot. Father Elijah has carte blanche to tell you to do whatever he wants, true, but he only tells you what to do, not how to do it, and you as the player must wrangle Dean, Dog/God, and Christine to the best of your ability. You have to navigate the virtual minefield of these distinct personalities and each quest to achieve the outcome you desire. Imagine if Obsidian had just said "Elijah gets mind control chips." There would be no story, no struggle. He'd just win. Using mind control REMOVES a character from your story. Why on earth would you want that?
My least favorite thing about S2 was how much it simplified the lore and factions of the Core-Region and basically reset the status quo to make the previous stories pointless, Star Wars Sequel Trilogy-style.

Upon realizing it's been almost thirty years since the first Fallout, I suddenly developed arthritis in my fingers and my eyesight got worse.
My favorite part about Fallout Season 2 is that after realizing they couldn't spread their main plot thin enough for more seasons, they decided to do the plot of Fallout New Vegas a second time but worse.
I'll keep saying it, if the Fallout TV show took place in any other location, it would be a very fun show. But it specifically had to go through the areas Bethesda didn't make
