everyone is wrong here he didnt speed off to save others in some heroic way(though that is one outcome of his decision) he sped up to save himself. By hitting the throttle, he used convective cooling and fuel displacementβthe same physics that blow out a candleβto temporarily suppress the fire. The high-speed wind resistance pushed the flames back and dropped the temperature, shrinking the fire just enough for him to safely jump out the moment he stopped. If heβd stayed still, and tried to get out (when the flames had already reached the roof) then he wouldve gotten severe burns. and most people think oh ok who cares its just a burn im getting out as soon as possible. ok sure two things happen there. the burn could get infected or the car could explode killing him rather then speeding off getting out and not getting even a scratch on him at all.
